JFK transportation to Midtown west hotel

We arrive at JFK from the UK, at 3pm ish for 10 days in NYC. Should we reserve a 'supershuttle' , car etc.???? We will have two large bags and don't want public transport. i.e. direct to hotel. How do we reserve shuttle or car?? any recommended companies?? Ones that don't rip you off?? Thanks

I'd just get in the cab line--it's a set price ($45, I think--plus tolls and tip).

No shuttle or car service needed (and super shuttle is a disaster). Just hop in a cab. The fixed price is $45 plus bridge or tunnel toll and tip (20% of fare but not toll) for a total of about $60. A car service is no less and it can be a pain to find the driver, then wait while he goes to get the car.

Shared shuttle services like SuperShuttle are a bad idea in NYC since riders are stuck driving through Manhattan traffic, dropping all the other riders at their hotels, which could be interminable. Take an official taxi.

But you could consider taking a car service FROM Manhattan back to JFK if that's on your agenda. They'll pick you up at your hotel at a specified time, and drop you at the terminal. It really depends where you're staying and whether getting a taxi at the appointed time and place will be easy or difficult (Times Square on a Friday at 5 p.m.=difficult, Upper West Side on a Saturday afternoon = somewhat less difficult!). I've used Carmel Limo on more than one occasion, others use Carmel or Dial 7.

dial7.com and allstatelimo.com are dependable. They'll ask you to phone when you're ready to leave the airport and tell you where to meet the driver. You avoid paying wait time and parking fees for them should your plane be late. Toll and tip will be on top of the price paid. They'll be about the same as a taxi.
