JFK to the Hamptons? How?

Greetings New Yorkers!
Will someone help a Virginia gal traveling by herself? Please, tell me what are my options for getting From JFK to Westhampton, on Long Island? (Not a limmo. I can't afford that!) I heard maybe there is a small bus company... The Hampton something? How about the LIRR? Any ideas on how much it will cost me?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Gretchen

Gretchen,

You can take the JFK Airtrain to Jamaica station and connect there to the LIRR, which will take you to Westhampton.

Airtrain info:

LIRR info:

Hope this helps,
Andre

You can also check out the Hampton Jitney - which is a luxury coach service - snacks, newspapers etc - and will cost somewhat more than the train - but is more comfy. Wlll be much less than the limo.

I asume you will be visiting friends there that have a car - because without one in the Hamptons you're lost.

Thank you Andre and NYtraveler!
I'll check out your suggestions. NY, I'm a little confused about the Jitney. Does it actually go to JFK, or, just stop somewhere close?

No - it does not go to the airport. If you call # on the web site they will tell you exactly what arrangements to make to get to the stop nearest the airport (have seen people get on there but don;t know if they took a shuttle or ???).

If you do this you need reservations - since the bus is often full.

You would have to take a cab from JFK to the stop in Queens, which is on the service road of the Long Island Expressway, the major road from the city to the east end of the Island; it is very straightforward to do this once you have made your reservation with the bus company. The taxi will probably run you $15 or so from JFK to the bus stop...that its just a rough guess so don't hold me to it.

the lirr stops at jamaica transtation, which easily connects the JFK airtran ($5) i've done this several times to get home (30 min west of the hamptons) and i def. suggest it. it's very easy and convenient. i was a commuter for a long time, i don't know how mych a one way train ticket would cost but i'd say app $12-$15? do you have access to a car once you get to westhampton? if not, you should be prepared to get a cab from the station. there will be plenty there, and i'm sure you will also see alot of postings at the station with cab companies and their phone numbers. enjoy!

The jitney is great, www.hamptonjitney.com but would be a hassle from the airport. What everyone said above is probably your best bet--taking the air train to LIRR. It's really easy and you don't have to worry about geting to Fresh Meadows or Manhattan to catch your eastbound bus. That plus if your flight is delayed you don't have to worry about missing your scheduled bus time. Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody,
I've discoverd that I can fly into a smaller airport out on Long Island (Islip). That makes things MUCH easier. But, I do appreciate your help.

cactus..islip airport is great. it easily (not as easy as jfk-jamaicaa but still...) to a train station ronkonkoma. (lirr.org) those trains get you to the hamptons as well.

Islip is a lot closer to Westhampton but you'll still need either the LIRR or the Jitney.
