JFK to Chelsea
What's the best way to get from JFK to Chelsea? We will have luggage and carry on items. I will be with my mother who has a bad knee.
|
A cab is $45 plus tolls & tip.
or, $5 each Airtran to LIRR's Jamaica Station. $8 peak each; $5.75 off-peak to Penn Sta (34th St); then $2.25 each subway to nearby station and then you will have to walk. This may not be a viable way depending on where your hotel is situated. Or, $5 AirTran to Jamaica and then $2.25 subway which would not be viable for someone w/a bad knee. |
Bad knee + lugage = cab or car service
Dial7 or Carmel are reliable car service companies and if you go to their websites sometimes there are even discount coupons to use for your first trip. The AirTran/subway option is LOTS of stairs getting to the trains and then getting up to the sidewalk. BEST suggestion is cab or car service. Have a GREAT time. |
I'd say it depends on your budget. Taxi or car service will be $60 including tip and toll. If budget is tight, you can take the Express bus to either Grand Central or Port Authority for $15/person and then a taxi to the hotel. That should cost about $40 total. http://www.nyairportservice.com/page.php?id=31

Whoops , I thought you eant Chelsea in London!!!

You dont say when you are arriving, which would influence my decision, but the answer is almost certainly a taxi. No need to do anything else. Budget $60 to Chelsea. However take a car service back. Budget a bit more for that.
You don't save enough to justify the bus to Penn station. |
With a mother with a bad knee and luggage plus carry-ons the only thing that makes sense is a cab. It's a flat fee of $45 and when you add toll and 20% tip arond $60. The cab line is rarely long and moves quickly.
You can also get a car service for about the same amount - try Carmel or Dial 7 web site for coupons - but I find looking for the car irritating and take a cab unless it's business travel then they provide a limo with "meet and greet" - which is way more than a cab. |
Last month I took a cab from JFK to Chelsea and it cost $60 in total.
