JFK Security Checks

Flying out of NYC from JFK at 1700, how rigorous will the security checks be? What time should I leave the hotel (Millenium Broadway) to give me ample time to check in, etc? Thanks again!

For an internation flight, I also agree with the previous answer given about 1pm. this will give you extra time for unexpected security delays, lines, the last gate at the terminal etc. :)

I think arriving 2 1/2 hrs before flight time should be fine. The real issue is what day of the week you're leaving. As I recall it's a Sat just after New Years which could be very busy traffic wise. 1 1/2 hrs hrs should do it so I'm agreeing with 1 pm.

I will be leaving on the Sunday after New Years. *sigh* I have to cut short my shopping then. Thanks anyhow!

The Sunday after New Year's will probably be a very, very busy time at the airports, so I'd give yourself plenty of time to get through the lines, certainly arriving at least 2-2 1/2 hours before your flight.

I consider JFK to be a half-step above most third-world airports, so I agree with those who say to give yourself 2 hours before checkin. I have bad experiences every time I fly through Kennedy and now avoid it unless it's just not possible. I like jetBlue but won't fly them to NYC because of JFK!

My experience is that the security is a bit sloppy in JFK but not as bad as at Newark. 2.5hrs should be ample.
