JFK Airport transfer
Hi all,
Does anyone have any contacts for a taxi transfer from JFK to Time Square?? |
Dial 7 or Carmel (I'm not a NYC 'pro' - but ever time there is a question re car service, the locals recommend these two)
The last two times I've used Carmel - only because the first of these 2 trips the Dial 7 website was acting up so I used Carmel and just stuck with them. From the MANY posts about this, both seem about equal. |
Of course you can also use a regular taxi (not a car service). Just walk up to the taxi stand outside the your arrival terminal (there are taxi stands outside each terminal and the dispatcher will haul a taxi for you. There might be a queue of other travelers but it usually moves pretty fast.

Taxi JFK to Manhattan-Flat rate $52 plus tolls. I always use Carmel Car, however.
|
Sometimes you have to wait for a Carmel car at the airport, a yellow cab is usually right there.
|
I think it's easier to get a cab than to connect with a car service.
The set fare is $52.80; with toll and 20% tip, figure on $70. |
A car service (I use either Dial 7 or Carmel, both of which have web sites where you can book your trip in advance) almost always costs less than a yellow taxi these days. I usually pay between $62 and $66 for the trip (a yellow taxi will cost about $72). All the costs vary by the route (tolls vary) and the amount you tip (20% is expected). You may save up to $8 by taking a car service, so I'd recommend that. Uber or Lyft also work, but their fares can fluctuate and cost the same as a yellow taxi.
|
One more thing to add: you may get solicitations for ride services while within the airport. ANY such effort is ABSOLUTELY illegal. Accept a ride from one of these characters, and you'll discover the origin of the phrase, "Getting taken for a ride."
|
You may even see people carrying Uber signs as you exit. I can assure you that legitimate Uber drivers do not solicit outside the terminals.

Thanks for all your help guys
