jetBlue Fares
 

I've never searched fares on jetBlue before and I'm wondering how much the fares fluctuate, if at all. I'm flying from Syracuse, NY to Seattle, WA in September. On Friday (4/7) the total roundtrip fare for two people was $628.20. On Sunday the fare was $748.20. Today the total fare has increased to $768.20. Should I just book know and try to forget that I could have had the same flight three days ago for $140 cheaper or wait and see if the fare goes back down to where it was?

I have gone through this w/ Jet Blue. When it happens, I do go to US Air & always get it for less than Jet Blue. Try it & see what happens!

It's too early to find sale fares for September, late June would be a good guess, but if you MUST fly only jet blue, I don't know.

With recent increases in fuel prices, and today's news reports of possible $4/gal prices by summer, I think we can expect similar price increases for air travel.

$768 might end up being a real bargain.

JetBlue's fares are most competitive in the higher-volume markets, but even then they will fluctuate. Time of day that you fly is the main factor, obviously. My recent round-trip flight on them, LGB-OAK, cost $141.20 all in-- and both flights were packed. Last year's LGB-JFK round trip was around $200 all in-- and packed.

I'm guessing that the Syracuse leg is what's complicating things. I can't imagine that the flight to Seattle would be high-priced, given direct competition with the majors (say, Alaska Airlines and United).

Any flight out of Syracuse is expensive. Don't know why. Try looking at flying out of Rochester.

Any flight out of <b>any</b> where there is little to no competition usually means higher fares.

JetBlue fares tend to be cheaper the farther out you book them so if the flighst are that expensive already unless there <b>is</b> a fare sale I would suspect these fares will not come down.

Have you compared fares using a site such as www.itasoftware.com as opposed to locking yourself into one airline?

I think they do fluctuate a bit and in your place, I'd either book one of the other airlines that are cheaper or wait. kayak.com allows you to look at Jet Blue vs. other airlines. Picking an arbitrary Tues/Wed. in Sept., Delta, Continental and AA all are cheaper than Jet Blue and none are non-stop.

Thanks for the responses. We always fly US Air but were originally looking at JetBlue because it was the cheapest. Then the idea of watching ESPN on DirectTV on a cross-country flight really grew on my husband so we were trying to make it work. I was just surprised at how quickly the fares jumped in the span of a few days and wondered if that was the norm for JetBlue. Thanks again.

My friends ran into a similar problem booking tickets from Boston to Vegas. They booked...and then the prices went down. They called Jet Blue...and the airline gave them a credit for the difference. So maybe buy now...and then call if prices go down.
