Jersey shore to OBX

Driving to OBX from Jersey shore. Interested in making a few stops along the way for some surfing/biking/general recreation. Any suggestions? Driving along the coast for sure! Can either tent or get a hotel. Have four days to spare before our reservations in OBX. Wanted to spread them out. Family of four.

You planning to take the ferry from Cape May and drive south from there? Otherwise, there's a lot of the coast you won't be close to.

Check out the Virginia Eastern Shore, thinking Chincoteague and Kiptopeke in particular.

Definitely taking the ferry. Stopping near rohoboth, ocean city, assateague, and Virginia beach. Was looking for fun things to do with kids besides the beach. Maybe waterparks, go carts, etc.

If you want to go on a nice bike ride, the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge has a nice 25-mile loop around and through it. It's quite scenic (IMO), plus a good chance to see some bald eagles. Bring a pair of binoculars.

Also, as a curio, about 25 miles north of the Bridge-Tunnel on Rte 13 is the small town of Eastville. There are maybe 3 lights on 13 for it. The middle light, if I recall, is Willow Oak Drive. Turn right, go about 7-8 houses down, and on your right in someone's front yard is the National Champion Willow oak tree, largest in the entire US (by a hair). Magnificent tree. 25 ft circumference, 110 ft tall.

It's in someone's yard so you probably wouldn't want to just walk up to it, but if one of the owners sees you, they may well come out and invite you over to it. They welcome visitors coming to look at it and have probably had plenty. It's close enough to the street anyway.

IMO the Williamsburg rec is a good one and wouldn't be all that far out of the way once you get into the Norfolk area.
