Jersey Shore Accomodations

I'm looking for ocean front accomodations on the Jersey Shore for a family of 5. Condos or beach house preferred. Any recommendations?

I think Long Beach Island is a good choice. Great beaches, good places to eat, and activities for the kids. It definately has that "beachtown feel." <BR><BR>In some of the areas further north, like Point Pleasant, there is a large year-round community and some parts of town have a more "suburban feel."<BR><BR>Just about any real estate agent on the Island can hook you up with a weekly rental. (They tend to run from Saturday to Saturday.)

Mark: My family owns a house at the Jersey shore so I can help you with some info, but it totally depends on where you're coming from and whether you prefer the southern part of the state or further north. Our house is in Stone Harbor which is mile 10 on the Garden State Pkwy so it's close to Cape May and about 1/2 hour south of Atlantic City. The beaches in this area (Avalon, Wildwood Crest, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle) are really nice because they're for residents only (and their renters). By law, owners have to rent their homes through realtors so by calling Century 21, Diller/Fisher or some of the others, you can get a good idea of the listings. Hope this helps get you started!

I have stayed on Long Beach Island with friends and rented in Ocean City, NJ. On our last rental we paid $2450(wk) for ocean front it was clean but old and small. We rented another year also, Ocean front large and only slightly old for $3500(wk). When I say large I mean it accommodated us comfortably I think if we had to live there we would think it small. This past year we got smart and went to the North Shore of Kauai family of 6. We stayed in the largest, newest rental of all half a block from the beach with only a trickle of visitors and we spent $1050(wk). I highly recommend it if you can swing the airfare. Incidentally, I bid on tickets in 00 and got a fare on continental with one connection for $484 from Newark. <BR><BR>I think the rentals at the Jersey shore are out of control on their prices. I would head back a few blocks save the difference for airfare to hukilau country next year. MY2CENTS. <BR><BR>If this is not an option or desire of yours we used Berger Reality in OC. Also go online and look up Chamber of Commerce site which will show you other agencies, we use Moneyhan (sp) both have websites. Other Jersey shores I like are Avalon, Cape May, Stone Harbor. <BR>

The prices on the Jersey shore are OUTRAGEOUS for what you get--you could pay to fly to Florida or say Hilton Head and stay in a far nicer place for about the same price, including airfare.

Yeah, but can you play "Skee-ball" in Hawaii and Florida!

Go to Wildwood Crest and stay at Seapointe Village. You will absolutely love it. It is a condo and townhouse complex right on the beach. They have a website also. I really think you should check it out. Have a wonderful time.

Mark:<BR><BR>I'd have to agree with dc. It is outrageous what the Northeastern beach people charge for their real estate for a week. I'd say Wildwood, NJ would be cheaper, but not much. Try Delaware. They have parks on the shore between Rehoboth and Bethany/Dewey that are really deserted compared to the overpopulated Cape May and Rehoboth Beach. Check into nationwide real estate companies for that particular area. Most of them will have rental property on or near a beach. My family stayed 2 blocks from the ocean at a house ($1,000/week). Make sure you are guaranteed parking spaces w/property. We didn't do that and had a free-for-all type parking situation w/the general public for spaces. Tip: it's not really necessary to stay oceanfront, 2 blocks isn't a long haul walk and it is quieter a little bit away from the boardwalk.

NJguy ski ball at the Alamoana mall on Oahu and about chucky cheese type places on each island. These places are in local areas so you can avoid them if you are not going for the cupi doll.<BR><BR>I know you weren't really serious but I had to add.

Mark: A few more things to consider: the rental rates in NJ change from week to week during the summer with mid August being the highest. Also, the rates are also substantially less expensive if you're willing to be even one or two short blocks off the beach. Again, let me know if there's anything else...

SSS-Blasphemy! Comparing Chucky Cheese to the OC boardwalk. You must be crazy. Have spent at least 4 weeks (3 of them oceanfront) in OC, NJ. Last year spent a week on the Outer Banks, NC. Sorry- even with the pool it isn't the same. We really missed being able to walk everywhere. Nothing like strolling the boards with a cup of greasy fries in one hand and some Johnson's carmel corn in the other. Now that's living!

I too was raised in Southern NJ. I know the childhood memories you are talking about. My mother remembers where on the boards she was standing when she first saw the ocean as a young woman. We stayed at the Flaunders that weekend which by the way Mark is a nice touch of O.C’s past. It think it was built in the 20’s and it still has that charm about it. Close to the board noise though.<BR><BR>To each her own Jersey girl you can send away for Johnson's popcorn I prefer to send my self away for the price of an OC beachfront rental. See your kids decked up in snorkel gear and loving it, hiking, identifying flowers, birds, fish and you will have knew expectations from a holiday. Though I know this is not a yearly thing that we can afford. Doing it once has broadened our scope. This year we are thinking, Dude Ranch or Quebec. Incidentally we found one Dude Ranch, I think it was in Wyoming (Bush Creek?) family of 4, $3200., that’s your activities (horse included), food and accommodations. Now why would I do a rental in O.C when I could do the Rockies?<BR><BR>You are funny though, I know the nostalgia that surrounds a week at the shore. I have 5 sisters and each of them insists a week in O.C. with their families. Not meaning to pass judgment on anyone’s choices here. Was surprised to find the things I have mentioned here and in earlier post so I thought I would share.<BR><BR>Njgirl I won’t tell your dentist we had this conversation!!!<BR>
