Jersay city to NYC

This will be my first visit to NYC. My budget is very tight. So I want to stay in small town in New Jersey close to NYC. I'm thinking to stay at Jersey city and take ferry to Statue of Liberty to start my visiting. Is this okay? Then is bus/railway available to go back to Jersey city at evening to pick up my car(I kow ferry close in afternoon)?

Or try Weehauken where the ferry is. Or how about Hoboken where the Path Train is into the city?

Jersey City would be a good place to do that. Jersey city has a new Hyatt (out of budget?) with excellent views of NY. It actually has (or had until 9/11) the best view of NYC. both ferries and subway (path) run to NY.

I am not sure you can leave your car there and actually expect it to be there when you return. That was a joke, the waterfront portions of JC are very nice and safe, as is hoboken. Just make sure you are careful about where you park your car.

Thanks njgirl and joebob.

So will PATH take me to Time Square or other famous place? Do I need to change to subway? How can I find out their schedule? See I'm always worry about coming back.:)

Jason, here is the most recent map & timetables of the PATH lines, including where you can transfer to the NYC subway system within Manhattan. Transfer points are relatively short & since the line terminates at 33rd, you can walk to the Empire State Building from there, or transfer to other subway lines to reach your other destinations.

I agree with the previous poster about the views. Lived on the waterfront in Jersey City for a year & some of my best NYC skylines were taken from there of midtown & downtown.

http://www.panynj.gov/path/
