Jekyll and Hyde Club closed!

Yet one more themed NYC restaurant bites the dust. Jekyll and Hyde Club has closed. It was open many years, and seemed popular with kids and tourists. I dont know what happened, but hey, I guess people would rather pay $6.99 for a burger+fries+soda at Wendy's/BK or a healthy sub at Subway instead of $16.99 at these places.

Ifcourse, Mars 2112, and Planet Hollyweird, and Tony Roma's, and Mickey Mantle's kicked the bucket for their own reasons.

I went there once - it was the last time I ever went to a "theme" restaurant. Yuck!

I went there once years and years ago. Back then, the bar's beer selection was unusually broad for the times. I am surprised it lasted this long though.

And deservedly so. It was a dump, unclean with awful food - as many of these places are. If I had my choice they would all be closed and people encouraged to eat fresh food - not the micronuked weeks old stuff they served.

Count me in the "good riddance" camp! I've been.

For some reason, my boss (who grew up in the NY area) used to make us take out-of-town colleagues to every theme restaurant imaginable in Midtown, close to our office. Sad to think they walked away with those food memories of NYC.

Sorry to tell you that it has not closed - it moved to West 44th St, where their ridiculous red velvet ropes do nothing but block traffic.

Rats!

That's it - maybe they should put one of the giant inflatable scab rats out front to discourage the victims.

Anyone remember Mama Leone's ? huge Italian restaurant, hours long wait for a table and huge, huge amount of food! Big tourist attraction, and I don't even remember that the food was very good. When we entertained out of area business associates, most wanted to go there!

We loved to go to Mamma Leone's before the theater when I was a kid.

Oh yes - Mama Leone's. We have similar memories (i.e. not related to the quality of the food!), except it was out-of-town family members and friends who would request going there.

Speaking of Mama Leone's and Jekyll & Hyde (but preferably not in the same breath), does anyone remember the old Stockholm restaurant - it was a huge buffet, with lobster tails (which is why my mother and I loved it). It must be over 50 years since we ate there.

We liked Micky Mantles and many times over the years we stopped in there for beers at the bar after walking through Central Park and exiting the park to the south. We liked the baseball photos and memorabilia cabinets. I am sad to hear it is gone.
