Jeep tours in Sedona

Has anyone taken these Jeep tours and are they worth it?

Ok. I haven't taken the Pink Jeep tour.

However, there's a jeep road parallel to the Broken Arrow hiking trail that jointly maintained by the NPS and Pink Jeep.

That hike was the most scenic I took in 2 days of Sedona hiking.

It was funny to watch the jeep driver terrorize the passengers by going up, over and down a large rock. It looked like they were going over a cliff.

Once the yelling stopped they looked like they were having fun. At the end of the trail they stopped, got out and walked around a bit.

There are several other tours that they offer.

I don't know your situation, but the Broken Arrow trail is not difficult at all. I only do easy. It took a few hours and the views were terrific.

There are loads of opportunities to enjoy the scenery in Sedona without taking a jeep tour.

We took one a few years ago. It was expensive, and for our money we learned which rock is called "Snoopy" and we heard a lot of lame jokes.

Later I found "Snoopy" marked on a map distributed free at a visitors' information desk.

Tickets for jeep tours are sold at kiosks like those used to sell time shares at Mexican resorts. I wonder why?

Others, I'm sure, viewed their jeep tour differently.

Yes, took a tour with "A Day in the West" tours and enjoyed it very much. Well worth it, in my opinion.

When we visited Sedona, we took the Broken Arrow Jeep ride which was highly recommended on several travel boards.

I would say that if you are not a hiker, taking a jeep tour is a must. The beauty of Sedona is not in town. We hiked the area for 5 days(we were supposed to visit the Grand Canyon but had a snowstorm that blocked the roads into the park). We did really spectacular hikes--we had never been to red rock country--we were impressed.

The jeep tour was enjoyable--I would have felt like I was missing something, if I hadn't taken it, but we much preferred the hiking.

I also suggest you look at visiting the area in the off season--we visited in Feb, to get a discounted rate at the Enchantment Resort(the room with the murphy bed/living room/kitchen is fabulous with a huge deck--you are surrounded by Boynton Canyon)

We took two jeep tours, one of the Mogollon Rim with " A Day in the West", and the Broken Arrow Trail with Pink Jeeps. We thought the Broken Arrow Trail Tour was much better, really worthwhile in our opinion. The jeep we took the first tour in (ADITW) had a very low canopy, so I had to keep bending over and twist my head to see much of anything, and ended up with a very sore neck. The Pink Jeep had a much higher canopy, and was better for viewing the scenery. Also, our driver with "ADITW" played some eccentric Wild West character and told lots of lame jokes, it was a little hard to take. The Pink Jeep driver was very knowledgeable and informative, we liked her quite a bit. That's definitely the one I recommend.

I've also taken a couple Pink Jeep tours - they were great. Did a photo one with them - it was excellent (the guide was quite the photographer). Make sure, if you want to develop your photos, that you get them done there. They know how to tune the machine to really get the colors there....

The Jeep tours are well worth it. Pink Jeeps is the "most famous" but there are several companies that do them. Search Pink Jeeps and you can read about the various tours. We have done most of them over the years and Broken Arrow is the best. You can do them any time of day and even combinde them with sunset.
There is much more to see than you can see from Highway. Off road gets you to very interesting formations and places. Plus the guides are a wealth of info on flora and fauna.

Pink Jeep tours are great and the Broken Arrow tour is their signature tour. Their scenic rim tour is good too.

I took a "vortex" tour from Red Jeep and we did not enjoy the tour.

We VERY much enjoyed a sunset biplane ride.

Debi,
Could you repeat that again about "Make sure, if you want to develop your photos, that you get them done there. They know how to tune the machine to really get the colors there".

I thought just about everybody shoots digital these days.

They are the only ones who know how to print photos of Red Rock Country.

I thought my colors were pretty good.

Select the Bryce, Zion, Sedona trip on the lower right side of the page.

While I didn't pay much attention to the Vortex thing, I happened to hike by/thru most of them.

Next to the Broken Arrow hike i thought the Boynton Canyon Vista (not the Boynton Canyon full hike) though quite short was very scenic.

Boynton Canyon Vista is in West Sedona and Broken Arrow is on the way toward Oak Creek if I remember correctly.

Bell Rock Pathway was also quite scenic.

Just too much there outside of the town.

My Mother and Dad went on a Pink Jeep Tour about 3 years ago. My Mom's back has never been the same!!! But they enjoyed the ride.

The Broken Arrow Tour from Pink Jeep was a lot of fun. The scenery was amazing! It is a little pricey but definitley worth it.

We are avid hikers and have been to Sedona many times. We have taken 2 Pink Jeep Tours and enjoyed them. Some of the other companies are not as good and some just go on simple roads you could walk yourself.

Nothing new that hasn't been said:

We also took the Pink Jeep Broken Arrow tour and we all really enjoyed it.

laurieb_nyny Oct 24th, 2007 06:23 AM

We rented a jeep for the day from Farabee & drove Broken Arrow ourselves with a map, without all the lame jokes. Got to go to two other jeep trails also for less than the price of the 1 Pink Jeep tour.

Great idea, laurieb_nyny. Thanks for the tip.

I dont' think this is a great idea unless you have 4wd experience. My husband does have experience and we've driven some moderate 4wd traisl out west and some of these are serious roads not to be taken lightly.

I think Broken Arrow is a good trail to do with a tour. I thought it was fun, and so did my kids.

Myer Oct 24th, 2007 10:12 AM

Why not just do the Broken Arrow hike?

No bouncing around. No steep ledges or steep trails. Just beautiful scenery that you can stop, sit and enjoy at your own pace.

Another excellent little hike is the Boynton Canyon Vista (not the full Canyon hike but a detour at the start of it). Takes you right to one of the vortex sites. This one is in Sedona West.
