Jazz in Savannah
We will be visiting Savannah in about three weeks. I had used a fairly trustworthy jazz site I often use for information. It listed Adagio Jazz Club and gave an e-mail address. My e-mail to them bounced. Would appreciate any info on places we might go for an evening of jazz. We're staying at the Ballastone--any thoughts about venues nearby?

Wow, this sunk like a rock to 119 since this afternoon. Topping in hopes that someone knows jazz in the area and can give us some suggestions.

Topping. I'd like to hear about jazz in Savannah, too. :)

One more time for me and Bayou Girl!

One suggestion: Jazz'd; enjoyed this alot 2 years ago-had a Sinatra singer who was fabulous. He may not still be there but the place is great fun.

Thanks a lot jbass. Just took a look at the website and it looks very interesting. Any other jazz lovers out there with suggestions?

I'm in Savannah often and I can't think of any jazz places. I googled and came up with Jazz'd - but have never been there.
I would definitely call or email the Ballastone and ask. VERY nice place and they will know where to go for jazz in the city (IF there is a good place to go for jazz in the city). If they have a suggestion, be sure to report back in. Savannah has a jazz festival every year. Maybe checking with an email for that festival? A runner-up idea. Drinks in the downstairs tavern at the Pink House listening to Gail Thurmond. Not jazz, but lovely music and atmosphere. Oh, GREAT food and drinks too. |
There used to be a place over Pirates House called Hannah's when we lived there. Emma Kelly and Ben Tucker (both of The Book fame) played there at the time. Emma was elderly then and I'm sure she has passed, but they may still have some jazz there and Ben Tucker may still be playing? Just a thought as you haven't had much luck yet...

Thanks again for your suggestions. I too googled but most of what I tried fizzled out. E-mailed Jazz'd and they said their website had a complete September schedule. I have clicked on everything I can imagine and the only schedule I was able to find was for August (most dates passed). They noted that they thought Adagio had been closed for some time. Interesting, since it is still showing up on google and elsewhere in my searches.
I will get in touch with the hotel and see what they have to say. Again thanks! |
Passing on what I just read today in the current issue of Southern Living:
Mansion on Forsyth Park (Casimir's Lounge) "In one corner a pianist or jazz ensemble often soothes guests with sounds as smooth as the martinis." Jazz'd Tapas Bar "The most lively place for drinks, music and food; the professional crowd celebrates here Tuesday through Sunday when modern-day crooners and upbeat musicians deliver Sinatra-infused tunes. Savannah Smiles Dueling Pianos Saloon "Multiple keyboardists bang on the ebony grands with bawdy twists that keep guests belly-laughing at their irreverent jokes. They also play and sing all the rock'n'roll standards during interludes." Well...I guess the last is not jazz! LOL! |
