Jazz clubs/restaurants in Manhattan

Nothing posted since 2007. so am looking for updates. Would like to hear jazz but also be able to eat not just drink. I have been to Cleopatra Needle but hoping for some other places. Leaving tomorrow 12-3

I had an absolutely fabulous evening at Jazz Standard back in October listening to great jazz and eating delicious Blue Smoke ribs. Not sure how long you're staying in NYC but if you're there through Monday night, I thought the Mingus Big Band was fantastic.

Check out City Winery - really good new venue with tasty, reasoanble food, great acoustics and sight lines. An ever changing schedule, with some jazz, but mostly rock.

Thanks for that heads up mp. Looks very good.

Yes, my husband went to Dizzy's and really liked it. It's not cheap, but he had a ball.

I don't know if this is too casual---but I'd recommend 55 Bar in the West Village. Can get crowded--it's basically a bar with a cover and you just find a spot. Last time I was there I hung out behind the band for a moment or two (on my way back from the bathrooms). Great energy in this place! Definitely feels intimate---but not in a romantic way if that makes sense.

I've been meaning to check out City Winery--looks beautiful from outside.

The other nice thing about City winery is that it's actually quite reasonable, and pretty well run. It's like a better version of the Bottom Line.

PS Blue Water Grill, Knickerbocker Bar & Grill are some other options but Dizzy's and Blue Smoke/Jazz Standard are probably the best.

Maybe I am bit too crtitical. But what type of jazz and what type of food? Jazz can take many forms as can food. And then of course, there is the quality of each.

What is wrong with picking the food you like and the type of jazz you like?
