Jazz/Blues Clubs Upper East Side
My husband and I will be in New York next week and would love to go to a jazz or blues club. We wil be staying in the upper east side area so any ideas for clubs/bars in the area or out of would be appreciated.

Hmmm . . . tough one. I'm not aware of any jazz/blues clubs on the UES.
As far as I know, your closest options would be Cleopatra's Needle on Broadway at 93rd Street (across the Park, UWS), great jazz 7 nights a week, or Jazz Standard beneath Blue Smoke on East 27th Street at Park Avenue South (easily accessible by the #6 subway to 28th Street stop). (If you head south to Jazz Standard, be sure to have dinner at Danny Meyer's fantastic Blue Smoke.) Enjoy! |
You might check who is playing at the Iridium Jazz Club (Broadway at 51st). Several subway lines are close by. Les Paul has a regular Monday night gig there.

I suggest you do a search of this forum. This topic has been discussed recently and, if I recall correctly, someone posted a website about jazz in all of NYC. Could prove very helful.
Good luck! |
I would second caroler's suggestion of seeing Les Paul at Iridium. We saw him a few years ago and he's still going strong at 87. After the show he signed autographs and posed for photos for every person that stayed after the show. Not too often that you get the opportunity to see a living legend.
Also check out Birdland. It's only a five or ten minute cab ride from the upper east side. We saw Jim Hall(jazz guitar) there. JoeG |
