January wknd in the Poconos
I want to plan a surprise long weekend sans kids for my husband's 40th b'day, probably MLK weekend. We live in Wilmington DE. I think he would enjoy a day of skiing plus some spa time, so the Poconos jumps to mind...as long as it is someplace classy. No champagne glass tubs! My max is $200/nite.
Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks, AAML |
aami216, when are you planning to go?

There are alot of rentals and time shares in the Poconos & most of the resorts are in dire need of renovation.
There is a brand new resort called Great Wolf (very close to Camelback skiing) that you may want to google. It is receiving alot of press and it just opened. The only other "classy" resort is Woodloch Pines but I do not know their proximity to skiing. |
Skytop doesn't have the greatest skiing but it is a lovely resort and has a nice spa.

If you can get Skytop for no more than your max of $200, go for it, but I'd be very surprised as it is very expensive (some would say overpriced). Consider driving to Vermont and hitting Stoweflake at Stowe. Nicer resort, far better skiing. I really wish the Poconos had the kind of hotel you are envisioning.

I would "do" somewhere in New England (Newport, RI?) before the Poconos. Expensive for no good reason...
