January Golf Weekend for Husband's 57th Birthday
I want to give my hubbie a surprise golf weekend in January 2014. I know zilch about golf. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Prefer modestly priced, but is that a dream in January in a warm place?

Need more info from you:
Where are you flying from? What is your definition of "warm"? Are you looking for daytime temperatures in the 50"s, 60's, 70, or 80+'s? Are you willing to travel internationally for this trip? You have to define "modestly priced" - without a dollar point of reference we have no idea what you consider modest. What's your actual dollar budget for transportation (car, bus, train or airfare), accommodations and, above all, Green Fees? FYI - Green Fees at the better golf courses can be upwards of $250+ per round! |
I apologize for lack of info..
Flying from Chicago. Daytime temps 60s is fine. Would consider Mexico. Budget $1k tops with minimum 2 rounds of golf. |
Golf in Mexico is expensive at least in the Riviera Maya area, consider Palm Springs or Hawaii.

Opinions on San Antonio / Austin / Ft Myers ?

I think $1000 for golf, accommodation, meals and airfare isn't a very realistic budget. Count of $150-$200+ for a round of golf in most resort areas. If you just want any old golf course - then pick a warm area, find a cheap airfare . . . there will be courses.
(I assumed you are going with him and he isn't going solo - right? The 2 airfares alone will eat up a big % of your budget) |
I just googled "golf trips" and found dozens of options including www.teetimesusa.com for Florida and others for Arizona...
look for packages online... its much easier as they include lodging and golf... good luck |
Thank you all so vey much!

If you don't mind temperatures in the high 50's to low 60's look at golf packages in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. You can get 3 day packages (golf, accommodations, breakfast & lunch) beginning at around $275 per person. 5 and 7 day packages also available.

Another vote for the MB area. Take a look at Litchfield Beach and Golf resort. The accomodations will be very nice, good dining in the area, and choice of 100 golf courses. It is 'way off season so it should be very discounted everywhere.
