January Golf Getaway to Florida.... Need help with where to go

Hello everyone,

I am looking to surprise my DH with a 3-4 night golf getaway in January. I am planning to send him and his brother to Florida.

I know nothing about golf so could really use some help with where they could go. They will be flying from Dulles (DC area). Any suggestions for a nice resort (4* - 5*) with good golf, meals, etc....?

Thanks for any suggestions!

The Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach might be a good choice. This is where the Players Tournament takes place. It's a lovely area by the beach, close to Jacksonville.
Go to www.marriott.com

You may also want to try Orlando.

Just a word of warning, I think the main TPC course at Sawgrass used for the Tournament Players Championship may be currently closed until late next year.

I think the Marriott Doral in Miami might be a good option www.doralgolf.com as they have 5 Championship courses

What's also good is that all the courses at Doral are listed on www.lastminutegolfer.com

This gives you major discounts on the green fees for the next day. With 5 world class courses and 4 days, this gives you great golf all in one location and with the discounts, a lot more to spend on food & drink!

My mistake, Sawgrass is open until March 2006 but please be aware that green fees are around $240 per person.

Whereas at Doral you can play the Blue Monster (used for Ford PGA tournament) at $99 per person

Thanks, Geordie.
Sounds like a great option. I will check it out this week!

Ponte Vedra, while nice, can be cold in January. People think "Florida" and conjur up visions of balmy weather year round, but that is not the case. If it were me, I'd head further south--Miami on the east coast (Doral), or Naples (Ritz Carlton Golf Resrt) on the west.
