Jamestown, New York

Our son will be playing baseball for the Florida Marlin's minor league team in Jamestown this summer. My husband and I are looking for a place to stay for 5 weeks or so. Does anyone know of an affordable extended stay hotel or lodge in the Jamestown area? Many thanks!

I stayed in Jamestown once and I believe there are only two hotels a Best Western (where I stayed and it was nice) and another motel I can't remember the name of. Nothing that was an extended stay. I would recommend looking in the Erie, Pa. area as it's only about 45 minutes away and is more apt to have something. Good luck!

Just adding a little bit of trivia: Did you know that Lucille Ball came from Jamestown? I know this because she once borrowed a cup of sugar from a neighbor who was the mother of an old friend of mine!

There are at least four hotels in the town of Jamestown

Red Roof Inns Jamestown
1980 East Main Street

Best Western Downtown
200 W 3rd Street

Holiday Inn JAMESTOWN-DOWNTOWN
150 W FOURTH ST

Comfort Inn Jamestown
2800 North Main Street
Phone: (716) 664-5920 or 1-877-424-6423

The Comfort Inn is probably cheapest. I don't know if they have long term rates though.

Jamestown is in the Chatauqua Lake area (incuding the Chatauqua Institute) of New York which is quite lovely in the summer. You might look to rent a place along the lake, but you are probably looking at peak season prices. However, western NY is undervalued as far as real estate is concerned so you probably wont object to price. I don't know for sure, but there probably is a visitors bureau or tourism office to help. Good luck to you and your son.

I know it's not foolproof, but I went to mapquest and got a map of Jamestown and then looked for hotels. Quite a few were listed and you get to see where they are on the map. One inn looks like it's on or near a lake. Here's the link

I cracked up when I saw this! I was born in Jamestown NY but NO ONE ever wants to GO there!! I still have some (very few) family members there, but most of everyone moved away long ago.

It IS true that Lucille Ball grew up there - she went to school with my dad's mom and my mom's dad and used to come over to my great grandma's house to help her clean while my grandpa would tease her unmercifully. When you watch "I Love Lucy" or any of the various biographies on her - credit is always given to Jamestown.

Try this website:

http://www.tourchautauqua.com/section.asp?section-id=03

It lists a lot of rentals near Chautauqua Lake. There are several real estate agents listed, as well.

Chautauqua Lake is a definite vacation destination, and this summer may well be booked. However, there are all types of accommodations from small motels to efficiencies to condo's.

Perhaps a real estate agent is your best bet at this late date.

If you have the time, make a visit to the Chautauqua Insitute. It's fantastic.

Good luck.
