My family is visiting Jackson/Yelllowstone in July 99. Would like comments on lodging to include cabins.

Why don't you try checking out some vacation rental web sites. Just to name a few...www.vrbo.com, www.vrr.com, www.cyberrentals.com, www.vacation-properties.com. These are all vacation homes that are rented directly from the owner. Good luck.

Between my son and me, we have visited the Tetons and Yellowstone many times.
(My son is 39.) He likes the Signal Mountain Lodge in the Tetons.
In Yellowstone, I like the Old Faithful Snowlodge Cabins. They are the most expensive cabins in Yellowstone, but also the most spacious and comfortable. Second, I would rank a room with a bath in the Yellowstone Inn itself, very close to Old Faithful. The cabins are within an easy, level walk of the Upper Geyser Basin, which includes Old Faithful. Cafes and cafeterias are in the vicinity as are the Hamilton Stores.

But, move now for reservations. In fact, the Old Faithful Snowlodge Cabins are in short supply. I made my reservation last month and availability for mid August was dwindling.

I guess third choice would be one of the other types of cabins at either Old Faithful or the Lake, or even the Falls of the Yellowstone. I have not stayed recently in a Western Cabin or a Frontier Cabin, but I know from talking with people that they are slightly less in quality and space than the Snowlodge variety.

Failing this approach, there are several good motels in West Yellowstone; the town is about 30 miles from geyser basins.

I'm also planning a trip for our family to Yellowstone/Jackson/Denver area for late July 99. I made reservations for Old Faithful Inn and Snowlodge Cabins after reading many postings on the internet and speaking with reservationists at Amfac, the concessionaire for Yellowstone. You'll probably have to keep calling Old Faithful Inn to see if cancellations have been made. Last time I checked, they were booked for my time period. There were still a couple of snowlodge cabins left. We will be staying in Gardiner, MT as a home base for the northern section of Yellowstone. Lodging is cheaper, and I'll get a pool for our kids.

In Grand Teton/Jackson, we're staying at Jackson Lake Lodge after again reading and hearing great things about it. They also run Colter Bay Cabins that are less expensive and more rustic. I've also heard Signal Mountain Lodge is nice. Here's some web addresses to try:
