jackson/yellowstone need help with trip.
Hi,
I have just won an auction to stay at the Teton lodge, slopside, for 5 nights but would like to split the time and stay one night near the west entrance at hibernation station. Is this a crazy idea ? we would like to do a hike and do not fancy driving the 50 miles back to Jackson and then maybe return again for another day.
The park is so large we would like to see as much as possible, any ideas for hikes and fav scenic routes ?
Thanks,
Angie

Here are two in the Teton:
1. The hike up to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. Park in the South Jenny Lake lot and take the ferry across the lake (to save a 2-mile hike). Then, take the vertical 1.2 mile climb. The falls are magnificent and the view from the top is wonderful.
2. Drive to String Lake and take the 2-mile hike (on level ground) to Leigh Lake. The entrance is on the scenic drive at the Jenny Lake North cutoff. When you get to the parking lot, drive to the second lot, which is at String Lake. (PS: I took some of my best photos at String Lake. It's really a beautiful site. But, then, all of the Teton is beautiful!)
Other 1 to 2-mile hikes on level ground in the Teton can be found at Colter Bay and Two Oceans Lake.
Added suggestion: If you want to get close-up views of a bison herd, drive along Antelope Flats Road off the main road in the Teton.

Depending on your hiking prowess, continue on past Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point all the way to Lake Solitude. It's about 7.5 miles one way, moderately strenuous (2300 foot elevation gain), but absolutely gorgeous if the weather is decent. It took us about 7 hours round trip with an hour rest at the lake. One of my all time favorites.
