Jackson, WY - centrally located hotels for winter

We had such a great time in Jackson recently that we are planning a 10-day return trip in early February. We will not be doing much downhill skiing, but hope to learn how to cross-country ski and snowshoe.

We are looking for a decent, mid-range hotel close to the center of town. The Wort Hotel seems to be one of the few that appeals. Could readers please comment on this and any other good hotels in the area? Which properties are your favorites, and why? Any experience with winter sports (we are novices) and operators? Thanks so much

Hi Gerda,

Really, as far as I know, the Wort Hotel is the only one of it's "category" in town. Pretty much all the others are older, small motel type places, although probably lower in price.

If you might be willing to be located outside of town, there would be other options at the base of the ski resort, but they will be more $$.

We stayed at the Alpenhof and really loved it. I think the Wort is right around the corner, but I'm not sure. We saw a lot of people cross country skiing from our window.

The Worth Hotel is IN the town of Jackson, nearly right on the town square park where the antler arches are.

The Alpenhof, where you saw people x country skiing, is at the base of Jackson Hole ski resort, 20 min drive out of town.

Oops, sorry. I knew there was a beautiful hotel around the corner from us, but it was The Snake River Lodge.

What about: Hilton Homewood Suites, Inn on the Creek, Best Western? Any experience?

Gerda,

When I ski at Jackson Hole, I stay with friends, so I'm not current on all the motels and all the many, many new lodging properties.

Surely their web sites have a location map for you? I can tell you if they are in a good location, but no personal experience staying.

Thanks- I'm aware of each property's location. I am more interested in comments regarding quality, reputation for cleanliness, etc.

Hello GerdaFaust,

I have just returned from a trip which included a couple nights in Jackson.

I can highly recommend the Best Western Lodge in the town of Jackson. It is NOT in the center of town; only a short 2-3 minute drive away.

If you're looking to stay smack-dab in the center, this hotel would not be for you.

However, if you don't mind the short drive and prefer to be away from the busy-ness that has become Jackson, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Our room had 2 queens AND a fold-out couch, microwave, coffeemaker, iron, free wireless internet if you have a computer, free breakfast (scrambled eggs, potatoes, cereals, breads, etc.), and the place is wonderfully adorned with wildlife and western motif.

In years past, we have also stayed "in town" at the Parkway Inn in one of their suites; lovely room with antiques, quiet location, easy walk to center of town.

We drove past the Homewood Suites, and it looked nice, on a quiet street, did not go inside.

If you have questions about locations of any other hotels, fire away.

Happy travels!

thanks, Kopp! That's very helpful. I'll check into Best Western and Homewood Suites as an alternative to The Wort Hotel.
