Jackson Hole & Yellowstone

I would love to hear from those of you who have made this trip. We are flying into Salt Lake City and then driving to Jackson Hole. We have a week to spend in the area. We want to see Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons. I have no idea how long to stay in each destination or exactly where we should go. Any ideas would be appreciated! We are going the week of Sept 25-Oct 2. Thanks! Susie

Parts of Yellowstone (facilities, etc.) start closing toward the end of September. Can you move your trip up a week so that you arrive September 18th? http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/ocd_locale.htm

Most of what you want to see will still be open, but your lodging options will start to narrow.

We spent a couple of days in Grand Teton NP and about three days in Yellowstone. If you like, you can read my trip report:

Jackson is the town. Jackson Hole is an entire area and includes the Tetons. I wouldn't stay in Jackson if I wanted to see Tetons and Yellowstone. I would stay "In Park".

The town of Jackson is right outside Grand Teton NP; if you can't find lodging in the park, it would work well. For Yellowstone, it's easier to stay in the park.

If you're going this year, start calling Xanterra every day to see if you can get rooms in the parks. Their number is on their website - http://www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com/

Jackson is quite far from Yellowstone.

In park if at all possible.
