JACKSON HOLE WYOMING IN AUGUST

My husband and I and two sons, ages 17 and 20 are
traveling to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Any particular
restaurant or activity suggestions? We will have a
rental car. We are planning to go to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone also.

A number of responses in dep lounge lay out activities in J H area. Note that most of them vote for the Grand Tetons over Yellowstone. Scenery is the mainstay of GT, but river rafting on the Snake, fishing, horseback riding and of course hiking are probably the primary activities. River rafting is pretty gentle this late in the season but it is fun and with a good guide you learn a lot about the area and will no doubt see quite a few critters if you take an early morning ride. Wild animals abound in the park. The chapel at Moose Wy is very interesting and worth a visit. If you are so inclined the area has a number of excellent guest ranches that offer many many activities, excellent food and horseback riding with the freedom that you do not find on the East Coast. There are also a number of interesting western towns close by that provide a nice diversion. You won't find a prettier place than the Grand Tetons. Of course Yellowstone is pretty neat as well but not nearly as beautiful. You have picked a great place to visit. You may not want to leave. Have a great trip.

Bubba's is a great place to go for Bar-B-Que

Bubba's a great place for ribs; the Bunnery has terrific pastry and breakfasts; Jedediah's is the place for sourdough specialties. The Bar-J Ranch has a chuckwagon supper and western show. There are two playhouses with evening performances. If you like to shop, there are many fine stores. Several nice museums, cultural events and lots of scenery, wildlife, and outdoor activites. Yuo won't be able to do it all, but it is all worth while doing. Weather can be capricious--yuo might have all four seasons in one day. There is something for everyone. Have a great trip!!---Cathy

There is a great evening activity for the whole family at the Jackson Hole Theater - a summer stock live musical presentation of Calamity Jane. As for river running, check out Mad River Boat Trips Company. Other attractions in Jackson in the summer include PRCA Rodeo, Teton Village gondola, Moose Village, alpine slide and lots of other fun stuff.
