Jackson Hole Lodging and Info?
 

Hello!<BR><BR>I am in the midst of planning a New Year's trip for my family for next year (it's a surprise). I have been leaning heavily toward Jackson Hole - does anyone have any comments about their experiences, and would you recommend it for New Year's?<BR><BR>Second, where would you suggest we stay? We will have myself, my husband, and my parents. I would like the most upscale lodging available, but somplace that is convenient to town, restaurants, activities, etc.<BR><BR>I have been looking into the Rusty Parrot Lodge in Jackson, and Teton Pines Condos in Jackson Hole. We always stay at the Spring Creek Resort, which is about 20 minutes outside of town, on a bluff, overlooking the Gros Ventre range, and with a wonderful view of the Tetons. It is very upscale, and they have a very nice restaurant on site.[they have a website] The Rusty Parrot is very nice, and closer to town. At New Years, expect snow, but that's my favorite time of year to visit (between Xmas and New Years) because the tons of skiers haven't yet arrived. Keep in mind that if the weather gets severe (which it can at the drop of a hat) you will be stuck in Jackson, and although I love the town (I got married there) there's not a lot to keep one busy. There are some fine restaurants there and some okay shopping. You'll have to go snowshoeing or cross country skiing in Grand Teton Natl Park, which is simply gorgeous. Although we were in Jackson during the summer two years ago, we stayed at two places you mention, both wonderful. We had reservations for Spring Creek Resort but discovered no air-conditioning and no umbrellas by the pool. The clincher was hearing the people walking above us. We left and went to the Rusty Parrot for one night. Fabulous breakfast, beautiful accommodations, and extremely helpful staff. While we slept, staff found a beautiful room at Teton Pines for us. We stayed in the guest rooms, large, gracious, his and her bathrooms, and lovely. I would recommend either place. Enjoy.

Mona-I live just over the mountains from Jackson in Idaho and go there often for work and pleasure. One thing that you may want to do is go out to the Elk Refuge and take a ride on a horse drawn sleigh to see the Elk that come down in the winter. It's only about 5 miles out of town and really fun. Be sure to dress really warm and even bring a lap blanket if you tend to get cold easily.
