RAVE: My son got engaged Christmas Eve...I'm finally going to get a daughter in the family....and maybe some grandbabies. Got really tipsy during the Champagne toast to the young couple and forgot to make the salad for dinner.

RANT: My christmas tree fell over on Christmas morning. I went to plug in the lights and the whole thing just fell forward. It broke lots of treasured ornaments. But, I'm going to be a mother-in-law, so nothing could dampen my spirits!

Best wishes to all of you for a happy remainder of this holiday season.

To marthaq - I offer another Rave - next time the tree falls over, it won't be as big a deal - you get used to it. So at least you lived the trauma of the tree while other good stuff was going on.

Our tree fell over twice 2 years ago - so now we mainly have cheap replacement ornaments. So when it fell over last Thursday 10 minutes after we finished setting it up, no emotional trauma - just a lot of water and glass to clean up.

Rave; Husband and I watched "A Christmas Story" all day long while talking and drinking wonderful red wine.

Rave; Seagulls at the leftovers.

Funny Rant; Seagull poop all over husbands big SUV but not a bit on my car!

Rant: Spent the Christmas holiday with Hubby's family @ Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, stood in line for the buffet at MB for 90 mins and didn't mind since it's the holiday....
No rants as this is the season to be jolly! Merry Christmas!

I fully expected to be tired & stressed out since I played hostess for the first time (I have a new place so it seemed to be a good venue for my family). RAVE: I wasn't stressed, we all had a great time, the weather was perfect for lounging at the pool
and everyone just loves my new place.

RANT: Too bad the University of Hawaii/Houston football game turned ugly! But, I must say, it was a very exciting game to watch.

Rant: Relatives who stay Too Long and never help out!! I promise I'll never do this to my kids!!
Rave: The visit is 50% over!

RAVE: My mother who visits and insists upon fixing all meals. Why is her cooking better than anyone else's?

RANT: My $^%$*% next door neighbor who knocked on my door at 9:15 AM Christmas morning and told us to move my mother's vehicle (parked on a city street between the two houses) because the neighbor had company coming...

Rave: I had a wonderful Christmas filled with friends, family and food! We opened gifts and everyone was happy. All the weeks of shopping paid off!! My biggest rave is that I received the beautiful Art Decko Vintage ring that I had seen last summer. It's beautiful and was the perfect present from husband.

I hosted a formal Christmas dinner for eight. Our menu was roasted prime rib, spinach salad with feta cheese and raspberry viniagrette dressing, mashed potates and gravy and strawberry jello pretzel salad. We said a blessing and were thankful for all we have been blessed with this year. I enjoyed serving the meal on my Christmas Tree Spode dishes and hand-painted snowman goblets I picked up in a recent trip to Paso Robles.

We had pumpkin pie and a "killer" chocolate pie that my husband made topped with whipped cream. We opened gifts with our family and then all headed to the movies to see Peter Pan which was very good.

Rant: my son's chess set had a couple of chipped pieces. We had purchased this at a specialty store in Portland so it will be a hassle to return it.

Other than that, it was a wonderful Christmas filled with many happy memories. We also welcomed my son's girlfriend to our family for dinner this year. This may be serious, as my son gave her a "promise" ring and we could not be more thrilled with his choice in this delightful young lady!!
We started to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's, one of my favorite movies but got interrupted. We will finish it up at our condo as we are headed out on Sun. for four days of snow play, snowboarding and fun at our Huntington Lake condo!! Happy New Year to all!! ***kim***

I had jello pretzel salad for the first time on Christmas Eve, and it was delicious. The first layer is crushed pretzels. The second layer is cream cheese mixed with something to make it spread evenly. The third layer is strawberry jello mixed with fresh or frozen strawberries, and the top layer is a whipped topping, I suppose Cool Whip works. My future MIL made it and it was yummy. I need to get the recipe from her.

And three at every Southern holiday event. We treat it like a vegetable, because it can be green.

Since my daughter was in the first grade, she has made a pistachio jello salad made with Cool Whip, crushed pineapple and mini marshmallows as her "contribution" to our Thanksgiving dinner!! Actually, these are the only two times I ever eat the stuff!! ***kim***

What does all this have to do with travel?

Hmm, let me think. If I ate a salad of pretzels, cool whip and jello maybe I'd have to TRAVEL to the bathroom -- and in a hurry???

And if your theory of anything green passes for vegetables, wsoxrebel, then I'll pass on the jello and have a big creme d'menthe instead, or maybe a very limey margarita.

I am still so full from last nights dinner, that reading about jello is making ME green !

My rave: Today was another beautiful day, the stores were crowded but not so much that I was not able to score on some great bargains at Saks Fifth Avenue.
My Rant: Tomorrow I have to get the Packing finished.
My Rave 16 days until we leave for Florida ~

Patrick, being down in Naples, Key Lime Pie should substitute for your veggie!

Yes, I know true key lime pie is more yellow that green but still.....
