It's dark, it's rainy, its cold.... get me out of here!!!

What's the name of that seasonal disorder associated with lack of sun that plummets sufferers into depression? Couple that with two teenagers and a traveling husband and I need to get out of this town!

Now my real question. Does anyone know how to check on airlines' direct flights from a specific airport without checking every airline website individually?

I don't really care where I go as long as its a direct flight (since I only have a three day weekend I don't want to waste any on a plane). Not looking for destination suggestions, just a quick way to check on direct flights from the Indianapolis International (ha!) Airport to all destinations at once.

LOL, mind if I join you? :D

Hi amwosu, I can sure relate. Can you go onto your local airport website, check out the various airlines that fly from there and than pick a spot? You of course would have to click on each airlines website..but anything to get away. I don't know of anyway to check on direct flights all at once. But what a great idea! Good luck with your venture.

In the meantime maybe I'll just drive to the airport and get drunk in the bar. Anyone want to have a GTG at the Indianapolis International (ha!) Airport?

It is called SAD .... and it does live up to its name!

amwosu Jan 10th, 2006 06:12 PM

Seasonal A???? Disorder... whats the second word? I'm too SAD to remember. Its the reason my FIL moved to sunny Sarasota 30 years ago.

A = Affective

Seasonal Affective Disorder

There are special lights that you can purchase to help. In the big scheme of things, it would be cheaper than a trip.

I'm all for doing both! :)

amwosu-not sure if there's a website that exists to check flights based on airport, rather than airline. But, I found two places that might help. The first:
http://www.ersys.com/usa/airport/ind.htm

It lists all U.S. cities that have non-stop service from Indianapolis via major carriers.

The second:
http://www.site59.com/
It's really only useful for last minute trips (this weekend or next weekend), so if that's what you're looking for it might help. It will give you a list of packages offered (flight w/car, flight w/hotel, hotel w/car) from Indianapolis.

Anyone know if those special lamps work? I've seen them advertised in magazines, and Bed/Bath&Beyond carries some, too. Not a bad idea if they actually work.

Vittrad Jan 10th, 2006 06:36 PM

Ugh, I would like to see the sun one of these times soon, at least it has been "warm" (relatively speaking). However, my next trip in three weeks is to Seattle, so I'm going from the frying pan into the fire, although I am really looking forward to my first excursion to the west coast.

I have also found www.ITASoftware.com to be useful.

amwosu Jan 10th, 2006 06:42 PM

Now THATs what I'm talking about. Thanks guys & gals. And Vittrad, ggod luck in Seattle!

Neil_Oz Jan 10th, 2006 07:01 PM

You could also try www.travelocity.com.

PS: at the moment (3 pm as I write) it's 34C (93F) here in Canberra, Australia. As I don't relate well to hot weather I'M depressed. 10 days ago we hit a near all-time record of 43C (109F). Right now I could do with some lack of sun.

amwosu Jan 10th, 2006 07:04 PM

Neil, I'm reaching out to slap you right this minute!

try this: type in your home city and it shows you the ticket prices to other cities.

Play with it - it's fun!

Vittrad, Get ready! In Seattle, we've had 23 days of consecutive rain. The record was set in 1953, with a 33 day stretch. Rain is predicted every day out into the future, so we're thinking we might have a shot at breaking the record! We're all excited about this, as you can well imagine!

It has actually been fairly warm, with temps in the forties and even fifties, and we've had occasional sun breaks in spite of our current apparent "winning" streak.

We moved to the PNW 16 years ago, and the other day I realized that I have truly arrived when I said, "Wow! First it was showers this morning, and now it's raining!"

Also, I now swim in an outdoor pool all winter long, even in the rain. I mean, you're wet anyways, right? And lightning storms are rare. The pool only closes for ice, and that is rare.

I am glad we are finally having a real northwest winter. I was afraid people would think this was the new California and invade the place. Needless to say, SAD is not one of my problems, thank goodness!

amwosu,

Just go to the airport, jump on an AWA flight nonstop to PHX and in a couple of hours you will have glorious sunshine and warmth for three days. And, BTW, no damn humidity. 8-)

Wanna switch?! I am sick of the sun and heat! Where is winter? Clouds?? Rain??? Enough already--it's like a person who is always happy--some days I just want to pop their balloons. Calgon...take me away from here!
