Itinerary Review? - GC, Bryce, Zion

Would love for someone with experience to eyeball our itinerary and provide any recommendations for our family of five (kids 9-13)!

Friday, October 2
Fly into Vegas at 10:30am, pick up 7 passenger RV
Drive to Hoover Dam and take some kind of tour
Pick up supplies
Drive to Fort Beale RV Park in Kingman, AZ

Saturday, October 3
Drive to Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams and stay there for 3 nights

Sunday, October 4
Drive to Ash Fork, AZ (west of Flagstaff) for day - not sight seeing

Monday, October 5
?Take train from Williams Depot to Grand Canyon Depot - worth it?? We are an active family and worried we'd get bored sitting there??

Tuesday, October 6
Drive to Bryce National Park and check into Ruby's Inn RV Park

Wednesday, October 7
Drive to Zion River Resort in Virgin, UT

Thursday, October 8
Explore Zion National Park

Friday, October 9
Drive to Las Vegas and turn in RV by 11am
Stay in hotel for flight the next morning.

I wouldn't take the train, I wouldn't stay 3 nights in Williams, I would spend more time at Bryce and Zion.

But that is just me . . .

I would agree 100% and then some with janisj.

What's the deal with Ash Fork? Can you do that on Saturday instead?

I'd absolutely stay in the RV park inside the Grand Canyon rather than staying in Williams and visiting via train.

I totally agree with janisj.

We are gone all day on Sunday visiting with friends (has to be that day) west of Flagstaff so we will not be doing any sight seeing in GC Sunday which only leaves us with one full day on Saturday if we depart for another park on Monday. We are staying at Grand Canyon Railway park for three nights right now Sat/Sun/Mon.

thx 4 help so far!!

Drive from Ash Fork to Grand Canyon on Sunday night and stay there overnight. Hike around Grand Canyon on Monday, then leave late afternoon or evening.

Or skip Kingman altogether, stay in Williams on Friday. Drive to Grand Canyon for the day on Saturday, go to Ash Fork on Sunday then leave for Bryce on Monday.

Try to get an RV spot inside Zion rather than at the RV park in Virgin.

You'll want to pick up groceries (assuming that's what you mean by "supplies" in either Las Vegas or Kingman. There isn't anywhere between Hoover Dam and Kingman to shop.

WhereAreWe - What is the name of the RV park inside of Zion? Is it Zion River Resort?

Is the RV park you're recommending inside Grand Canyon called Trailer Village RV Park?

Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much.

Of course it's not Zion River Resort. That's the one I have a reservation for LOL.

Zion has 2 campgrounds, South and Watchman.

Grand Canyon also has 2, Mather and Trailer Village. No hookups at Mather though.

You will be visiting Zion at what is still peak season. I think you should keep your reservations at the Zion River Resort because the campgrounds are all booked up for the sites that can be reserved.

If you are able to arrive at Zion very early in the morning, like 7 - 8 am, you just might be able to snag a first-come-first served spot. If you are lucky, can your Zion River Resort reservation be cancelled?

the one thing you have in your favor is that you will visit Zion on a Wednesday rather than the weekend.

I would disagree with the idea to be there at 7 or 8 am to try for a first-come, first-served spot. 2 reasons: 1) check out time is 11 am so the majority of people that are leaving would depart (and open up a space) around 10 am, not 7 am. 2) OP is coming from Bryce, they would need to leave there by 5:30 to arrive in Zion at 7.

Sunrise is at 7:30. I think the OP could at least watch sunrise at Bryce, then get on the road and see if there's an opening in Zion when they arrive. That would get them there around 9:30 or 10 which should coincide with some openings if there are any to be found.

Been checking daily and got a reservation this morning to stay at Trailer RV Park inside Grand Canyon (instead of in Williams) for Saturday and Sunday nights!! Also now staying two nights in Bryce followed by two nights in Zion. Thank you!!!!
