Itinerary help please!

Hi

Planning to travel from the UK in August for 2 weeks approx.

How long would it take to drive from San Francisco to Las Vegas?

How long would it take to drive from Las Vegas to LA?

Many thanks.

Vegas to LA will be about 4 to 4 1/2 hours with no stops AND no traffic. If you are traveling on a Friday or Sunday add at least 1 or 1 1/2 hours to this estimate. Also, remember that it will be extremely hot in Vegas in August-- well over 100 degrees.

SF to Las Vegas is a 10 hour drive. Almost no one would opt to drive, it is not scenic and besides the airfares are cheap enough to make flying the better option. Try orbitz.com just to price the airfare, if you have transportation you could also use the SF airport plus 50 mile radius feature so you get more pricing options from nearby Oakland and San Jose airports also.

It will probably be cheaper to fly than rent a car and pay for gas. By the way, while in the cities of San Francisco and Las Vegas there is no need for a car. You only need a car for exploring outside of the city limits. You would need a car to get around LA and the surrounding areas.

Another vote AGAINST driving between these cities (they're just too far from each other) and FOR flying (convenient, cheap). parrotmom is right as well as far as not needing a car in Vegas or SF but definitely needing a car in LA.

Are you used to driving on the other side of the road from your accustomed side? Can you deal with high volume traffic? Are you handy with road maps? LA's a huge, complex city with a huge, complex road system; it may not be the best place for you to learn how to drive on "our" side of the street (for you as well as for those of us who will be following you, driving side streets extra-slowly looking for a particular cross street-- so PLAN YOUR DRIVES CAREFULLY-- we will thank you for it!! :) ).

Whoops! That's ParrotHEAD, not parrotmom. Where did I get that...?!
