My family, 2 adults and 2 kids, ages 14 and 11, will be traveling to Oregon at the end of August. This is my rough first start of places to stay- what do you all think?

Day 1- land Portland in the evening, stay overnight, most likely Marriott (hotel points)
Day 2- Portland
Day 3 -Portland
Day 4 scenic drive to Hood river through Gorge, stay Columbia Gorge Hotel
Day 5 explore Hood river, have lunch, drive to Timberline lodge, stay there
Day 6 drive to Bend area, stay Sunriver Resort
Day 7 Sunriver Resort
Day 8 drive to coast, sand dunes, Florence up to Newport, stay Newport
Day 9 drive to Cannon Beach stay Surfsand
Day 10 Surfasand
Day 11 drive Portland, fly home

Any help would be appreciated

On Day 3 spend the day getting from Portland to Hood River seeing the waterfalls (including Multnomah) on he way. If the wind is right, you will see a lot of kite surfers on the Columbia River near Hood River.
tack the extra day in Portland at the end of the trip.
Take Rt. 38 across to Reedsport so you can see the Roosevelt elk about 5 miles before Reedsport.
There are dune buggy rentals at the dunes but I don't know how safe they are. I just like climbing them in the area where the dune buggies are not allowed.
The thing to see at Cannon Beach is Haystack Rock at low tide.

TTT The day from Sunriver to the dunes may be too busy to spend much time on the dunes before you want to head for Newport. If you could adjust a little, you might be able to drive around Crater Lake before heading for the coast.
Anyone else have good ideas?

I would spend one less day in Portland and an extra day in Sunriver. So much to do in that area for kids that age. At Sunriver there are great paved biking trails, horseback riding, kayaking and fabulous swimming pool. Close by are some easy hikes, some rafting- there is a place at Sunriver where you can book the raft trips. The Big Eddy is a favorite raft trip.
more than enough to keep you in Sunriver for several days.

Just st a bit south of Florence is the dune buggy rides. I think they are a lot of fun. A driver takes you over the dunes. I like the smaller dune buggies that only hold 5 instead of the large group rides.

Theres a few ideas.
