Itinerary for Sedona, Pheonix, and Grand Canyon
We just booked our tickets! We'll be flying into Pheonix on Oct. 1 and flying out of Pheonix Oct. 11. Yay! So, what about an itinerary? Here's what I was thinking:
Oct. 1, 2, 3, and 4 - Pheonix
Oct. 5 - Sedona
Oct. 6 and 7 - Grand Canyon
After that, I don't know! More nights in Sedona? So far, we've only booked the Grand Canyon accomodations for Oct. 6 and 7, so we're flexible. We want to keep driving to a minimum if possible, which is why we're stopping in Sedona for a night (to break up the drive from Pheonix to the Grand Canyon). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

justme2 and I already gave some thoughts the first time you asked:

Not sure what you mean by keeping the driving down. It's only 225 miles from Phoenix to Grand Canyon and can be done in 4 hours. If you need to break up the driving there are plenty of interesting places to stop.
If the ideas I gave are to much driving then maybe you will want to spend the time around Sedona. There's a lot to see and do in the area. Jerome, Montezuma's Castle National Monument to name a few.

We flew into Phoenix and headed directly to Sedona so I have no suggestions for Phoenix/ Scottsdale. If you like to hike however, you will love Sedona and I would suggest that you spend at least 2 nights there---a lot of hiking suggestions on www.hikearizona.com. In Sedona, a lot of people also enjoy the jeep rides through the red rocks--we took the Broken Arrow Trip with Pink Jeep Tours.
We had planned on spending 3 nights in Sedona last Feb. and then heading to the Grand Canyon but the roads were closed to the Grand Canyon because of a snowstorm. It was the first snow in 2 years for Sedona---The residents were so excited---we Ohio people didn't really share their excitement. We ended up cancelling our reservations at the El Tovar(boo)and extending our stay in Sedona, but it really wasn't much of a sacrifice---we were staying at the beautiful Enchantment Resort---we fell in love with that place.

Thanks so much to both of you for your suggestions! Utahtea - sorry I posted twice. When I returned to the site to see if anyone had responded, I couldn't find my original post, so I re-posted.
I think we might spend Oct. 8 and 9 in Sedona, and then spend our last night, Oct. 10, in Phoenix. (We have a fairly early flight out in the morning.)

When you can't find your post use the "Search this forum" box to type at least part of the name of your thread. You can also chose a particular state beside the Search box and scroll through the threads there to find yours.

Sedona is a destination in itself. I agree you should do at least two nights there. We stayed only two nights there and had wished we had had a third. There is so much to see and do there and nearby.
So where are you Oct 8, 9. 10 and 11?

Well, it looks like we'll be in Sedona on Oct. 8 and 9, and then we'll spend our final night back in Phoenix. (We fly out fiarly early on the 11th.) Thanks, guys, for all of your help!

Do you have specific things in mind for Phoenix? If not, here are my suggestions: if you like architecture, don't miss Taliesen West in north Scottsdale. If you are interested in Native American arts and culture, go to the Heard Museum. Unless you are spending all your time golfing, go to Tucson for at least a day. To get off the freeway, take 60 west and then south to 79. It is called the Pinal Parkway, and takes you through some pretty desert. If you do a search here you'll see lots of recommendations for things to do in Tucson.
I'm glad you've decided to spend two days in Sedona.

We stayed in Flagstaff and were very glad we did. The drive from Sedona to Flagstaff/GC is very pretty - but no way I'd want to drive those wind-y mountain roads in the night time.
Try Jerome and the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest. Also, the observatory in Flagstaff is great for star-gazing.
LOTS of great places to hike also.

You all will love it traveling there in October. We were through there last year at that time and the weather was perfect.
I can relate to your posting mixup. It all makes sense the way they have this forum set up, but I find it easy to overlook something if I'm not careful. Don't feel bad about it.
With the amount of time you all have, you might consider branching out to more sites. Definitely 2 nights in Sedona since you have time -- 1 night would be too rushed for there unless that was all the time your could fit in. Someone mentioned going in the direction of Painted Desert/Petrified Forrest. We were over that way and took in Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley, both well worth visits. It seems like you could head right on out from Pheonix to Sedona for a couple of nights and go that route taking you then in to Grand Canyon on the 6th. Then take in Pheonix after GC.
It's beautiful out there and driving is easy. Whatever you decide, it will be fun for sure.

I'm interested in your responses because I doing a LV, GC, Lake Powell, zion, lv loop next year. Going to save sedona for another time. Have fun.

The Heard Museum and Taliesen are on our "must do" list for Phoenix. (So is the Desert Botanical Garden. I'm an avid gardener.)
I've booked all of my hotels for the trip except for the final night in Phoenix. I think we just want something fairly close to the airport, as we have an early flight out the next day.
Thanks, guys, for all of your suggestions!! When I return, I'll be sure to post a trip report!
