Itinerary for milwaukee wisconsin to yellowstone

My husband and I are planning a trip from Milwaukee, WI to Yellowstone. Our first stop will be in Mitchell, SD(the corn palace) Where should our second night be spent in order to view the Black HIlls/Bad Lands? Is one night in this area enough before we enter Yellow Stone. HELP!!!!!!

Depending on when you leave, if you're spending a high in Mitchell (area) you can visit the Badlands the next day and then spend the night in Custer State Park. We've stayed twice at the State Lodge and really liked it. Lots of history and the park is easy access to Deadwood, Mr. Rushmore and the entire area. We could have easily spent more time there. I would suggest making a slight detour to Devil's Tower in Wyoming. It's an awesome sight.
Have a great time. We've been to Yellowstone (from Indiana) twice and would gladly go back again and again.
As for one night in the area? I doubt it. The travel distance is a lot farther than you may think. Plan to plenty of time to sight see.

I am sure you will get many ideas -- but I recently visited Pipestone, Minnesota and found it fascinating -- I am pretty sure you will be driving nearby -- American Indians have used the pipestone quarries located at the Pipestone National Monument for centuries to obtain materials for pipe making, a practice that continues today. 282 acres (1.14 km2) - visitor and cultural center, 3/4 mile walking trail along Pipestone Creek and Winnewissa Falls set in the tallgrass prairie. Pipestone Indian Shrine Association provides visitors with a selection of American Indian art and craft items. It might be worth a little side trip before you get to Mitchell.

Thank you. Would you spend 2 nights in Custer State Park before heading to Yellowstone?

For Custer area, you could easily spend more than 2 days there.
Custer State Park
Wind Cave National Park
Jewel Cave National Monument
Crazy Horse
Mt. Rushmore
Badlands

I would suggest 3-5 days in Yellowstone and 2 in The Tetons.
Wild Cave tours in the cave is awesome.
Hope you have reservations already to stay "in park" at Yellowstone and the Tetons. Yellowstone is an awesome place to see.
