Itineraries for Savannah and Charleston

My husband and I (active seniors) will have 2 full days each in Savannah and Charleston. What are the most important/interesting sites to visit? We will have a car. Also would like recommendations for moderately priced restaurants. Thanks!

Hi crckwc1,

Visiting Savannah and Charleston, I'd make sure to include some of the local Low Country cooking while you're there. I liked Hominy Grill And Husk in Charleston and Belford's and Boar's Head in Savannah-- there are so many great choices for dining in both cities, with a few day visit as I had, I feel I've only just scratched the surface.

Activity highlights for me were the National Park Service's ferry boat ride out to Fort Sumter, the Aiken-Rhett House and the Nathaniel Russell House in Charleston; for Savannah, the Owens-Thomas House and the Isaiah Davenport House. Save some time for relaxed meandering-- I did enjoy my morning and evening strolls almost most of all, with all the lovely parks, gardens and beautiful architecture to behold.

Have a great trip! Daniel

I can second the Hominy Grill in Charleston, especially for lunch – have been there a few times. Also Magnolias in Charleston http://magnoliascharleston.com

In Savannah, for a unique experience I would try Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, aka Dining Room. I have been twice, but it has been about eight years. Somehow I doubt anything has changed… http://mrswilkes.com

And if you have time when driving between the two cities, Hunting Island State Park is always worth a stop over, however brief: http://www.huntingisland.com
