La Rivista on West 46th, west of 8th Av. Great food and service. A better choice than Becco, IMHO.

Puttanesca on 9th Av and 56th St. is also very nice, and less expensive than La Rivista. Good food, large portions, friendly service.

Dopo Teatro on W. 46th, west of 6th Av. (Just don't mind the old guy outside soliciting business). :-(

Is there a restaurant midtown known for its gnocchi? DD loves gnocchi and that would be a treat.

My brother and his family go to Tony DiNapoli's when they're in the city for something. And his wife is an Italian girl from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. So you know it's good. :) I'm not sure about the gnocchi specifically.
