Italian restaurant in the theater district

We will be at the Winter Garden Theater (1634 Broadway, NYC) to see Momma Mia's matinee on Saturday at 2pm.
My daughter wants to eat lunch before near the theater and she wants Italian...what do you all suggest?? Thanks

For inexpensive:

Scarlatto on West 47th
Maria Pia on West 51st

On Sat. lunch, many restaurants serve brunch so despite being an Italian restaurant, their lunch offerings may not be so Italian. You should check menus on their website or on menupages.com first. Trattoria Trecolori is popular.

Roberto Passon at 50th and 9th has a great lunch menu -- good food, casual atmosphere, inexpensive prices.

I don't believe that Roberto Passon offers their regular lunch menu on weekends. It's brunch, though they still have some main courses. It's not nearly the deal, though.

OOps, in light of what McLaurie said, Roberto Passon also serves brunch on Sat., but it includes about 5 nice pasta choices, salmon with spinach, a great chicken breast with proscuitto and cheese, and many other things -- not just "brunch" dishes.

Try Remi. It's on 53rd Street, between 7th and 6th Avenues, a few blocks from the Winter Garden...within walking distance of the theater and well worth the walk.

Howard, unless it's changed recently, Remi is not open for lunch on Saturday.

Oh, I didn't know that, Patrick. But, it makes sense, since most of its lunchtime business is from business people in the area.

I like Roberto Passon anytime, but another suggestion would be La Masseria.

Pietrasanta at 47th & 9th is always reliable and reasonably priced.

Thank you, Fodorites, for all your suggestions. I am leaning toward La Masseria and will let you know how we "fare".
