ISO day and weekend trips from Silicon Valley to ??? Budget from on the low to over the top so I can invite different friend circles... Many thanks ! |
could you elaborate a bit more? I live in Silicon Valley as do a number of other Fodorites.
How many days do you have? Are you here for a conference? You talked of "flying" - did you want to fly somewhere from Silicon Valley? What time of the year will you be here? Weather will have a lot to say about what's available to you. Have you been to San Francisco? Palo Alto? Carmel? What places are the most attractive to you? Please give us a few more details so we can give you more specific answers. |
Are you the same Amanda who's living in Palo Alto for a few months?

easytraveler... many thanks for your kind note...
I am open and up for almost anything. . . I live in Palo Alto and love it but I do not know everything about it yet. In fact, I really don't know much about the smaller and larger area... I am open to 1, 2, 3 or 4 day trips as well as day trips now - April. I just started flying and would like to do mini trips in an airplane overnight starting June. I love water but need to do something when I am there because I can't sit still all that well. (OK - I can but I don't like to :) ) I love wine, good food, sailing, local food/favorites, hide-aways, college towns, any town with a main street or character, modern and old just the same... I can go upscale or salty (beachy) ... I love wine, meeting new people, dancing, jazz, classics, popular, art, museums and Irish or local pubs... I can get fairly excited about most things -- what I don't like is probably better: 1) I am a clean hotel room snob -- so anywhere dirty (does not have to be new) won't cut it What do you think? What do you like? Many thanks again, Amanda |
Is there a public library in Palo Alto? Get a California tour book (or ask if anybody has AAA membership - they have great fee tourbooks)

I would highly recommend Carmel-by-the-Sea. It's about 1.5 hours from Mountain View and I was just there last weekend. Sounds like you would love the town. Lots of Antique Shops, Art Galleries, beautiful beach and great little B&B's. It's incredibly unique and quaint. I am 27 and took my husband there, it was amazing. I am back to visit in a few weeks and planing another trip perhaps to the Sonoma/Napa area, obviously it's all about the wine and dining.
