Islandia, NY area restaurants?
 

I'm staying in Islandia next weekend and looking for recs for restaurants in the area for dinner. We will have a car so distance is not a problem.
Also, any recs for the Greenport area - how is Claudio's for lunch?

If you want to take a ride to Greenport, the Frisky Oyster is terrific but not open for lunch, just dinner.

Claudio's is good (prob. best option in Greenport for lunch) but not that special to go there as a destination (imo).

Closer, but still a trek and very special is the Jedediah Hawkins Inn. They serve a really nice lunch and are also in a stretch near some of the North Fork vineyards.

I wish I could help with something closer to Islandia, but don't really know that area too well. From my 2-3 yr old Zagat guide, Teller's Chophouse appears to be the closest destination place. It's in a converted bank in Islip.

Tellers is great for steaks and isn't too far from Islandia. I have family in the area and we always go to Tellers. Its not cheap but it has a great atmosphere and a nice bar. Google it, they have a website.

Once they close the outside deck at Claudio's for the season (its closed now), it's less of a draw for me. The food is OK. I think you can get better recommendations than that. I haven't been out there since I was there for a wedding last November but I have heard that some new places have opened up in Greenport by chefs from Manhattan, etc. The Frisky Oyster has gotten great reviews. I'm not sure if they are open for lunch though, a lot of places have seasonal hours so call ahead.

Just kidding, I didn't read that mclaurie already suggested the Frisky Oyster and that its closed for lunch...

Thank you everyone. For clarification, we were looking for a place near Greenport or Orient Point for a nice lunch on Sunday before we board the ferry to go back home.
We are staying in Islandia but hope to hit one of the German restaurants and a good seafood restaurant. Also, need a good lunch spot in Sag Harbor...thanks!!

For lunch in Sag Harbor, not many good choices. The American Hotel is fancy, pricey but usually very good. For something more casual, Mumbo Gumbo on Main St. isn't bad (Cajun) and probably open for lunch. JLX Bistro is a pretty place right across from the water on the corner of Main St. but food isn't great. The Dockside (the VFW Hall) is on Bay St. across from the water and the yacht club. Can be fine.

While I've never been, I would try the bistro at the Greenporter for your Greenport Sunday lunch. There are few other decent choices. I don't think Claudio's is all that good.

B Smith's is a great option for lunch.The view is amazing even if you
eat inside,ask for a tabley the window.
Amwerican Hotel is also good ,more formal and no view

my favorite spot is a just a bit down the road, channi's, (it's indian, and not to be missed) on route 111 in east islip.

In Orient Point right before the ferry is Orient by the Sea on your right. They have a limited menu but is okay

Just west of Islandia is Commack, there I like Ciao Baby which is Italian.

There are an awful lot of good restaurants on Long Island. It depends on the type of food you want.
