Island choices
My wife and I are planning a shor (4 day) getaway to the Brunswick area in December. We are looking at the Cloister, the Jekyll Island club or the King and Prince.
We are not sports nuts but enjoy biking, sightseeing and historic sites. They all look great. Any information on these would be greatly appreciated. |
I haven't been to the other places, but we vacation on Jekyll Island a lot. It's got a lot of great bike paths and if you like history, it's a good place to go as well. There are remnants of the early settlers (DuBignon house, old cemetery, etc.) as well as the historic houses from the Jekyll Island Club days.
We've never stayed at the Jekyll Island Club, but you should know that it is not located on the beach. If you want to walk on the beach, you'll have to drive or ride your bikes over there. (The Club has a beach pavilion but in December, I doubt there are any services available there.) |
I, too, love Jekyll Island. I, also, have not stayed at the Jekyll Island Club, but it looks like a wonderful place to stay, with beautiful surroundings.

Lovely area and I think you will enjoy yourself. While you are choosing accomodation take a look at the Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island. Very secluded, lots of biking opportunities, gorgeous beach and some areas of historic interest.

I stayed at the Jekyll Island Club Memorial Weekend and it was insanely wonderful!
I highly highly recommend it. Love the bike paths. They go all around the island and it is a great way to see the island. |
