Islamorada Resorts

We are trying to choose between The Chesapeake Resort staying in a villa or the Carribean Resorts at sea isle in a villa.
Any one stayed at these 2 or seen them?

I'd go with Cheeca Lodge.

xxx Oct 31st, 2002 12:25 PM

Me too.

suzy Oct 31st, 2002 01:04 PM

Checca wanted 450.00 per night and that was the least expensive.

x Oct 31st, 2002 01:22 PM

If it was the least expensive I would choose them. They are better then the other two.

suzy Oct 31st, 2002 02:15 PM

What i meant to say is that the least expensive room at the Cheeca Lodge was 450.00 per night.
Chesapeake was 200 for a villa.
Caribbean was 159.00.
I just want some feed back on the latter 2.

Suzy is this the rack rate? No one pays rack rate. Get either an entertainment book, AAA card or try the various websites such as expedia, cheaptickets or try quickbook.com.

x Oct 31st, 2002 03:25 PM

That's www.quikbook.com not quickbook.

suzy Oct 31st, 2002 04:39 PM

That was a AAA rate, the problem is that the dates are Feb 13,14,15th, so Valentines day and monday being presidents day, so 3 day weekend. It's hard to get them to honor discount rates.

I'd recommend "The Moorings" located in Islamorada.

Isn't it great how people love to spend other peoples money? Suzy, believe it or not it IS possible to have a great time in Islamorada without staying at either Cheeca or the Moorings (no slam at these resorts, they are top notch). For what its worth I've had friends stay at the Chesapeake for a week and they really enjoyed it and would return.

For what it's worth and acknowledging that no one has asked me, I would NOT spend $450 to stay at the Cheeca. It is simply NOT worth it.
The Chesapeake is a fine place. Save your money and stay there.

If you read the fodors report on the Carribean (Sea Isle), someone gave them very low marks for the villas. Apparently the houses are nice, the villas not.

My sister stayed at The Pine & Palms and really loved it.

Suzy,I stayed at the Cheasapeake last Jan.in a regular room, although the room was small,it was ok and the grounds were perfectly fine with several hammocks,ok pool, great view of the ocean.I have also stayed at Cheeca 3 times, not on my own dime and although the property is nicer,it is not worth as much as they charge and there is a lot of difference in rooms within the property.

I would go somewhere else; either Key West, Naples or Miami. The Checa Lodge is over priced and run down. There are maybe 2-3 interesting restaurents located on the water in Islamorada but otherwise there is nothing, unless you fish. The beaches are bad.

suzy Nov 6th, 2002 11:17 AM

Thanks for the replys. We picked Islamorada so my son and husband could go fishing. We will also be spending a couple nights in Key West at he Wyndham Casa Marina.

Scott, Cheeca Lodge run down? Hardly, they just finished a 42 Million dollar renovation.

I've also heard the Pine and Palms is nice.
