No, I meant, when did The Producers drop in attendence? I don't think the full houses lasted past 3 years. I don't think it lasted past the original leads' departures.

My point would be that Wicked is still going as strong as it did when it opened.

I just checked the grosses. Still at 100% in the largest house on Broadway - and that's 4.5 years after its opening - with two other full-time productions (Chicago and LA) and the touring company.

I would agree with tampatiger that it's the one to see

Oh, sorry, starrs. Yes, I misunderstood your question. You're right that no replacements in The Producers were able to keep houses full, except for a brief return for awhile of Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick.

And I didn't mean to say that Wicked is NOT the one to see, I just pointed out that the original poster made it pretty clear that they only saw one, so while their luck was good (or rather their planning was good), I just mention that the recommendation comes without being compared to anything else. And some people's tastes really are different. I do have friends who didn't like Wicked at all, but think Spring Awakening was the BEST, which I really wasn't overly impressed with. So it's more about individual taste and appreciation anyway.

HowardR was one who didn't like it. I adore HR's posts, but happily disagree with his opinion of Wicked

Based on stats, tampatiger's opinion seem correct after all. But, I do understand what you are saying. I wish I could have seen Spring Awakening. Any thoughts on The Country Girl? The cast seems amazing.

I'm still hoping for a May trip to NYC just to see some shows. It will be a last-minute trip if I can so I'm hoping for last-minute airfares and hotel deals.

starrs, wait until June and we can have our own GTG?

I've booked 12 shows so far for June. I'm hoping to see The Country Girl, yes, sounds great, but I'm anxiously waiting for them to extend discounts beyond the end of May.

Okay, when in June? We've been waiting for my friend to sell his B&B but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. So, I might as well choose a different month. I have a little boy to see and some shows to see and not a lot more planned. This is going to be my NYC version of my CA trip. I'm booked the first week of June and the Atlanta GTGs are June 7th and 8th, but if y'all are up there after that I may head on up - and drag my friend away for at least a mid-week visit for him. I have some hotel points I could use for the mid-week days and then try to get Priceline deals for the weekend(s). I'd love to meet you and Lee and I think you would enjoy meeting D.

We'll be in an apartment midtown west from June 1 to July 1, so take your pick.

Incidentally, I tried to get tickets for the new revival of South Pacific. There is ONE (against the wall in the back) single seat left for the entire month of June. There are no performances with two tickets. They are selling into January of 2009, so for those looking for something in the fall or winter -- I suggest you book those now!

Okay, I just used points for June 10 - 13 and will book a hotel for that weekend, maybe into the next week (I have to check on vacation stuff). I may try to grab that solo SP ticket .

Yeah! I love trips that start this way.

starrs is quite right. I (and my family, as well) didn't like Wicked. However, I readily admit that we are in the distinct minority. Still, I think we're in with some good company when you consider the fact that the theater folks voted Avenue Q the best musical rather than Wicked!
Anyway, this is not to demean Wicked, which is destined to go down in theaterical history as one of the most successful and profitable shows in history.
PS: Thanks, Starrs, for the nice comment about my posts.

Great starrs. I missed it -- is goddesstogo there then? We have tickets to the concert of Showboat at Carnegie Hall on the 10th, Catered Affair on the 11th, The Mikado at City Center for matinee on Saturday, the 14th, and Reasons to be Pretty in the Village on Sunday afternoon. So where are you staying?

Neo, email me at starrsvillega at yahoo. I've had some strange stuff happen on these boards and I decided I'd rather "be safe than sorry" so I'm not giving details before (but will after )

Neo - since you get into Manhattan on occasion, you should look into a Lincoln Center Theatre membership (assuming that membership is open - it frequently isn't). I got my tix to South Pacific that way at a discount and before they went on sale to the public. I don't usually do memberships, but this is a good deal and each year there are usually good offerings. I won't let this membership lapse.
