Is Weather Horrible in July/August
Considering a trip to Fort Meyers, Captiva Island etc in late July or August. We are concerned that the weather may be oppresively hot and humid or hurricanes may ruin the trip. Any Advice we are from St Louis and used to humid weather.

It will be very, very hot, except during the thunderstorm you'll experience most afternoons, (but not for long). However, there is air conditioning there, plus the gulf, so you can escape the heat easily enough by going indoors or underwater.

Do not try to visit in a car without airconditioning, but otherwise, hot is nice in the summer, and the crowds are much less. I've been there every time ofthe year, and I'd go back in the middle of summer without a second's thought if I had the time available.

Bring really good sunscreen. Bring slippers/shoes to wear on the hot sand. And enjoy yourself.

BAK

yes it is hot...try to avoid the heat from 12 to 3..wear sunscreen and drink lots of water...being on the beach and in the water helps..breeze fromthe gulf helps..I can`t handle the sun too long and went in and out of water and shade..don`t worry about storms..if it rains it won`t last long...hasn`t been too much of that anyway...could use it..have fun.

It is humid there in July and very humid in August. Just stay in the water. Everything is air-conditioned and evenings and early morning are unforgettable. 3:00 PM thunderstorms everyday clear the evening air. One never knows about the hurricanes...One season they stay on the East coast the next they run up the Gulf...One never knows so don't worry so much...

The GOOD news is that Captiva is a really lovely place - great beach (but almost no shade to be found)! The BAD news is that it's brutally hot, and humid, during July & August. Move slowly and don't stray too far from your air conditioner!

We were in Naples for two weeks last July/August. Worse than the heat, we found the mosquitos to be miserable...it made evenings out miserable.

Hello we will also be traveling to Fort Myers area in late July. Were there in July 1995 wasn't so bad but we are beach and water people. One thing I do remember is I think they are called fire ants and they bite. Have a fun safe vacation. Kathy
