Is Universal Studios doable in one day?
Plan to visit there with 2 children, ages 3 and 11 next April. Is one day enough or do you need two? What hotel do you recommend? Thanks.

Hi Nora,
I'm assuming you're referring to Orlando. Our first trip to Universal was for 1 day. We had also gone in April. We were unable to see and do everything because the lines were just too long, especially w/my at the time 3 year old in tow.
If at all possible, I would stay at one of Universal's on-site hotels. They are opening their third in June 2002. (check out Universal's website)
On-site guests have the front-of-the-line privelege. You could see Universal in one day w/the fotl. Islands of Adventure is also a fun park, with water rides, etc. (Many rides would not be appropriate for a 3 year old though).
My family spent 5 nights at the Hard Rock hotel & Universal & IOA last Spring. I had had enough by day 5, but kids would've stayed forever!
Staying on-site is very convenient. You can walk to both parks (from the Hard Rock; there is a boat that will take you from Portofino). The swimming pool at the Hard Rock is very kid friendly, with gradual entrances, slide, fountains, etc.
Have fun!

You should be able to do both in one day. As you have a 3 year old and an 11 year old, I'm sure splitting up (assuming two adults, as well) will easily allow you to see Islands of Adventure. It'll be a full day but you can visit the Movie Studio, as well.

Personally I wouldn't attempt to 'do' both the original park & IOA in one day. I cannot imagine anyone fitting in everything ( & thereby getting their moneys worth ) in just one day ( that is without taking time outs, eating etc. ). Don't forget there is City Walk to chill out in after the hurly burly of the parks. I would devote one day to US & one to IOA.

I agree with the previous poster. At least two days--three days would be even better if you want to do Universal and Islands of Adventure. Stay at one of the on-site hotels and get the express access perk. You can get some good discounts on the hotels. Go to
www.disboards.com and scroll down to the Universal forums. There's LOADS of great info there.

Nora,
Universal studios is doable in one day (LA), just be early and bring your stroller, that's the best advice that I can give you, just did myself, you will move faster, though it closes early at 8pm unlike disney 9pm. If you cannot then just extend if you want to, simple.
