Is there romance in Southern Florida?
Can anyone suggest a romantic getaway for southern Fl.? We will fly into Ft. Lauderdale and we are willing to drive/taxi a short trip (within an hour). We originally wanted hot/tropical/romantic, but because of the short non-stop flight and the weather we might choose this area. All I can find are these megaresorts...is there anything more secluded/romantic/topical-like?

Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys.
Any one of the cool boutique hotels in South Beach. The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach. |
The only place I could think of was Little Palm, but you won't get there in an hour from Ft. Lauderdale!

Check out this website: www.pillarshotel.com. Sounds like what you would be looking for and it's in Fort Lauderdale. It's a small luxury boutique hotel on the Intracoastal Waterway, has only 22 rooms and suites in a lush tropical garden. Nearby is the Casablanca Cafe, across from the ocean is a wonderfully romantic place for dinner.

The Keys have what you describe but to get to the tip of them is at least a hour from Ft. Lauderdale. Little Palm is probably about another 2. There are some wonderful hotels and smaller boutique type hotels in South Beach that might fit the bill. The Hotel Victor is fabulous! The Tides is also very cool. There is also a hotel called The Hotel which is smaller than the first 2 I mentioned which is also very nice and intimate. It has a cool roof top pool!

Agree with the Keys. There are plenty of other romantic, small secluded places like the Moorings Village.

Delray Beach is also a fun little town with lots of great restaurants. The Marriott there is nice. There's also the Colony Hotel...not sure about its quality maybe others can weigh in. The main street is Atlantic Avenue, you can walk to lots of fun places and the beach.

The Keys from Ft. Lauderdale - that is a trek. Key largo is even a few hours. Forget little palm island (and the $800 price tag.)
Lago Mar is a sweet family run resort - very romantic. And now the Atlantic has opened - i believe it's a rosewood resort. very luxe and adult...that's in Ft. Lauderdale too. |
Delray Beach is funky but not romantic to my way of thinking. I was there last week and it was full of loud, rude people. I was disappointed. Cute little town however.
I think I have a good recommendation for you. Casa Morada. It is in Islamorada in the Keys. look at: http://www.casamorada.com Very pretty, very sexy, and small. |
The Atlantic is a Starwood and I believe the St. Regis is open now too. Both are in Ft. Lauderdale and look beautiful.
