Is there any budget accom. in Rhode Island?

Hi guys, I'll be in Newport and Providence in April. I'm on a backpackers budget but all the travel guides quote accomodation prices of $50 and up. Is this because there is no accomodation in the $18 - $25 price range? Would I be safe to pitch my tent on the beach? Thanks in advance for your advice.

The best prices I've heard is $60 or $65 in the Warwick area. Sorry, the NorthEast can be pretty pricey. There are a few campgrounds open year round so check a campground guide. You might also look into accomodations at a YMCA. April weather can be very iffy, we've had blizzards in April some years, heat waves in others. You might also check to see if any of the Providence colleges offer overnight accomodations/guest housing.
Regardless of the weather, you cannot pitch a tent on the beach. Most close at sunset, and none allow you to sleep there overnight.

You might try the PIneapple INns in Newport. I think they were pretty cheap and convenient to town.

Thanks heaps for your help. Sounds too expensive, may have to skip it altogether. Cheers, Scott.
