Is there a transit pass available for San Francisco?
I will be arriving in SF on a Friday and staying two weeks. Is there a transit pass available? How much does it cost to use the buses and the other forms of transit? Thanks in advance.

One week pass for bus and cable cars is $ 24.00. I bought mine at the airport on arrival at a desk near the luggage pickup. It's good for 7 days from whenever you first use it -- you scratch off the 7 consecutive days.

Neopatrick: Thank you. Is it good for any other form of transit? And where else can you buy it, since I will be arriving by car? Isn't there some sort of rail to connect to Berkley? Can you use the transit pass on that? Thanks again.

Hi annetti, I am not the most brillant when it comes to SF transist passes but your question about the "rail" to Berkeley is BART and the SF transist pass does not apply to BART. You have to buy the BART ticket which is good only to ride on BART.
Here is a website for your review which I think will answer your questions. http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/passports.htm |
Here's a link to the website that shows where you can buy the MUNI passes and other matters. It is not good on BART which is what I guess you mean by "rail". But I assume there are MUNI buses that go to Berkeley?

I'll take that back. I don't think MUNI buses go to Berkeley. Anyone?
|
Hee. Hee. LoveItaly, I got stuck on the MUNI website and didn't see your post when our great minds were working alike!
|
berkeley can be reached from s.f. by
bart (our underground rail) or by ac transit - the east bay transportation buses that start in s.f. from the transbay terminal at 1st and howard. you will need to purchase separate tickets for either of these options. |
Thanks, everyone. I could not for the life of me remember the name for the underground rail. Thank you, all. I will look at the website.

Hi Patrick, yes great minds! And thanks to Abranz we now know there are busses from SF to Berkeley (I should have remembered that Abranz!)
Have a good time in SF and the Bay area annetti. |
Thank you, loveitaly for the good wishes.

annetti - If you are a senior (65+), there are huge discounts on every form of transportation in SF. Can't tell if you are over 65, but I want to share this info with you. My mom had huge savings there when we went to SF a few months ago.
|
yk: No, I'm not, but thanks very much for the suggestion. It may help someone else out.
|
annetti - Hope you aren't offended. :)
I just found the discounts amazing - and they are valid for any seniors, not just CA or SF residents. MUNI rides are $0.50 instead of $1.50 regular BART one can get a $24-value ticket for just $9 Golden Gate Ferry (btw SF and Sausalito) is half price Good thing my mom and I decided to visit SF in Sept - just 3 weeks after her 65th birthday! No one ever asked her for ID to prove her age, except to buy the discounted BART stored value ticket. |
Yes, when we were just in SF, I got myself a pass, but took a bunch of quarters, as Lee, my partner could do the rides for 50 cents.
|
yk: Absolutely, NOT offended. It was a reasonable and sensible question to ask. It could have saved us muchos dineros. You have provided some Fodorites with some great info/savings.

If they ever roll out the Translink system, you will be able to buy one card to use on all Bay Area transit, BART, MUNI, AC Transit, CalTrain--but unfortunately its taking forever and they always seem to be only testing it on BART and MUNI.
