Is There a Fare Website That Will Do This?

Let's say that I want to get away for the weekend and I don't really care where. Is there a website that will show the cheapest fares from a city, so I can choose my destination by cost rather than, you know, if there's actually something in that city that I want to do...

Go to specific airlines' website and see what they have as specials in their VACATION section, not just air fare. I know that Southwest, American, Delta, United has this feature and I am pretty sure that others do too.

Hope this helps...

I too would love to see a website that does this. Thanks for asking - maybe someone will (or does) do it!

www.site59.com

It will show package deals (flight + car, flight + hotel, etc.) and only goes out a couple weeks. But, you enter your departure city and it can show you all available destinations with prices.

Site59.com
Orbitz

airfarewatchdog.com

It doesn't have to be on the weekend...

For example, many years ago Delta was having a special, buy 4 segments, get a free ticket. I already had two segments, so I called them up and asked where was the cheapest place to fly. Ended up in San Antonio.

Now I just want to go away, it doesn't really matter where.

brandie, I get weekly emails from AirTran, Frontier and Spirit airlines. Sign up for their alert program to receive them or I can forward them to you. You know where AirTran goes. Frontier offers some good rates out west and Spirit offers deals to South Florida or Caribbean.

I used to be signed up for fare alerts with one of the sites like Kayak or Expedia where they would notify you when the airfare fell below a price you selected but I can't seem to see how to sign up for it on Expedia anyway. Anyone use this tool lately?

At smartertravel.com you can sign up to get emails about specials from your departure cities. The lists are divided into specials for the next weekend and specials for longer time frame. If you sign up for the emails, there are more departure cities to choose from than you see listed on the home page.

www.travelocity.com has dream maps. If you are also flexible on when you travel, this can be good. You input your starting city, and it shows a map with the cheapest round-trip airfare to various other destinations. You can then click the airfare to find out when it's available.

Your local airport may have something too. I live in Virginia Beach and the local airport here (in Norfolk) has a site WWW.takeorf.com that posts last minute deals every Wednesday.
