Is Sedona a good home base?

We are planning a trip to AZ the end of Sept -- would Sedona be a good place to stay and take day trips to the GC, painted desert, petrified forest? How long is the drive from Sedona to the south rim ?-- also, how long is the drive from Las Vegas to Sedona --- we can get an inexpensive flight to Las Vegas and thought we would rent a car...thanks a lot !!

2 - 2.5 hours from Sedona to South Rim. About 5 hours from Las Vegas although that included a atop in 'historic' Seligman on Rt 66.

It's far nicer than staying in the GC Park itself.

Phone 1-800-288-7336 and ask the Sedona Chamber of Commerce to send you a copy of their FREE 70-page booklet "Experience Sedona." Gives you all kinds of ideas of places to see, things to do, etc. Drive from LasV to Sedona is about 5-6 hours via Hoover Dam, Kingman, Flagstaff. Unless you stop to take pictures...which you will. From Sedona to S. Rim is 110 miles.

Has anyone stayed at the Radisson in Sedona and would you recommend it?

Skip the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest and go to Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly...that will make a far more spectacular trip for you.
