Is Orchestra C center (107-109) too close when watching Phantom?
We are planning to visit New York City for the first time. We understand that being close to the front row is not a good idea in the Gershwin Theatre, however, we don't know if the same holds true for the Majestic Theatre (while watching Phantom of the Opera) we suspect so. Could anyone tell me if these seats are any good?
Center Orchestra Row C, Seats 107-109 4 rows from Stage. Seat 109 is 6 seats off aisle. |
If one of the stars is a "name" star, I'd like to be that close. Otherwise, I don't like to be closer than H.
There's a lot to look at in the staging of Phantom. We saw it in November and we LOVED our front row mezzanine seats. LOVED them. For Phantom, I'd rather be "up there" than that close to the stage. Just one opinion. |
I have looked for front mezzanine seats. I couldn't find them for less than $160. I will dig deeper! You are the second person who has recommended front mezzanine seats.
Thank you! |
No. I'm the same person. :-)

I like to be close, and I would buy them. For me, being close adds to the enjoyment.
Only you know if you like to be close to the action. |
"We understand that being close to the front row is not a good idea in the Gershwin Theatre"
I don't think that's what folks were saying. For me, it pretty much depends on the show. I like to be close, but for some shows you miss a lot of the staging by being too close. I've been in the first few rows for Wicked (several times) but there's not a lot to "see" in the show that you'd be missing. I'd like to be further back for shows like the Lion King so I can see all that is going on in the production. No matter the show, my favorite seats are around Row H. I was worried about being TOO close for the Radio City Hall Christmas Spectacular. We were on the second row (but not a row in front of us) and had a great time. I think your daughter will be thrilled to be in Row C. If they are less expensive than the mezzanine, then I'd buy them. |
We saw Phantom from the third row and felt we were too close... especially because you see the mics, spit and sweat as well as miss the aura of the grotto boat scene and ball from its intended distance... its also distracting to hear both the real and amplified voices of the performers... the second time we sat in row 13 and it was better...

Considering the facts that Phantom is not selling out and that discount tickets are available, I find it hard to believe that you couldn't get front mezzanine seats at regular price ($121) by going to telecharge.com. (In fact, I just tried it and there are indeed plenty available no matter when you want to go.)
|
I'll go to telecharge.com right now...
|
We are a bit limited on our date, March 26 when needing 3 seats. Telecharge.com offered these seats:
$166.00 Orchestra I 107-109 $121.50 Central Orchestra P 107-109 Left Orchestra B 1-5 Mezzanine E 2,4,6 |
Here is a new $121 option:
3 Tickets, Center Orchestra Row P, Seats 107-109 17 rows from Stage. Seat 109 is 6 seats off aisle. |
Well, I'd do the mezzanine for Phantom but would choose the I row if you really want Orchestra.
|
Right now you can get 3 front mezzanine seats E2-E6, just off to the side on the aisle in the fifth row for $121.50 at telecharge. I would take those over row P in the orchestra for the same price.
Of course, if you're will to pay $166, then the row I seats are certainly the best. Personally, I wouldn't spend the extra $44.50 per ticket! |
I purchased 3 tickets for $60 each.
Left Mezzanine D. four rows back) Seats (1,3,5) on the isle! Thank you guys for your direction. My daughter (who we are going to New York for) does not know that we have fit in another Broadway show! For years she talked about wanting to see the Phantom of the Opera. She kinda got sidetracked to thinking that Wicked is the show to see, since so many of her friends raved about it (the only show they have seen). I suspect that Phantom will be better than Wicked. It doesn't matter one bit though. I know we will have a great time at both shows. Thanks a million!!! |
