Is Louisiana to Texas worth the drive?

What is best to see and do driving from Baton Rouge to Galveston?

You've got an interesting drive ahead of you:
Lafayette - much cajun culture in side trips.
Between Lafayette & Lake Charles - 40 minute side
trip will bring you to Grand Cashatta (?) Casino.
Lake Charles - Food and culture and casinos
Texas - Orange, Beaumont, Port Arthur
- Much Texas history. Stop in the Texas Visitors
Breau just as you cross the state line.
Take a left under I-10 at Winnie, TX. About 30 min
outside of Beaumont. This will take you on the coast drive to Galveston. The free Ferry is operated by Texas. Much to see and do in Galveston. Be sure to go to the Moody Gardens.
On the return drive, go thru Houston and stop off at the NEW Spaceship Houston at NASA. This is at least a 4 hour stop.

Have fun Jerry

Of course your answer depends on what you find interesting. There are a number of restaurants you can try along the way. Many are right off the interstate. I have driven this route so many times I no longer look for the tourist stops but prefer to dine in one of two towns Jennings or Crowley, both have a small restaraunt called "The Boudain King". this little place has the most authentic cajun food I have encountered in my many trips across LA. If you don't know what boudain is try it, it is a sausage made primarily of rice, Delicious, Yummm! I personally recommend the combo of a shrimp poboy, a bowl of seafood gumbo and the boudain. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. They also have all the standard sea food fare. But the kicker is that when I have visited I am able to feed my family of 4 on just over $20. Unbelievable!! I grew up on the Texas gulf coast and must say one town to the next are quite alike, you will enjoy Galveston, they have done alot to improve the city for tourism. Just as in any new city be carefull. The night life can be unpredictable stay to the beaten path. Feel fre to contact me if you have any more questions. As the locals say Lasez le bonne temp roules! (sic) Let the good times roll!
