Is Lanai worth visiting? FS Lanai?
 

My wife and I (early 30s) went to Kauai and Maui last year and had a great time. We were considering going back this year and were considering a 3-4 days in Lanai at the FS Manele Bay. Has anyone stayed there since the renovations were completed? Is Lanai worth visiting or is it boring? We are also considering Oahu and/or the Big Island.

I can't speak for Lanai as I haven't been there.

I haven't been to Lanai, but I have been to Oahu. Honolulu, in my opinion, was overbuilt and very congested--just another big city. But the redeeming places of the trip were the North Shore and visiting Pearl Harbor. I would highly recommend both. I would go back and stay in the North Shore in a heartbeat.

We did Lanai for 3 nights recently and were fairly bored there. I'd HIGHLY recommend the BI instead by a long shot, or Oahu.

We stayed at The Lodge and visited Manele Bay. Unless your a total golfer to the core or a "I don't want to do ANYTHING on my vacation" type person, I'd forget Lanai.

FS has taken over Manele Bay, but the renovations are not complete. When we were there recently the poolside restaurant was under construction as were half the rooms. You should check on construction status before making reservations. If you are going for golf or tennis or lazing around in the sun, it is wonderful. Other than that, it is very, very low key with minimal shopping and no evening activites other than hotel restaurants and bar.

you will be bored staying that long on lanai. come to the big island, very different than kauai and maui, lots to see and do and not as congested or overbuilt as maui has become. and oahu has a lot to offer but honolulu is a big city with all the problems big cities have (traffic, noise, crowds etc) but everyone should go there at least once!

We stayed there for three days on our honeymoon and were bored after the first day. While the Manele Bay is beautiful; the island of Lanai itself isn't that gorgeous in our opinion. It doesn't even feel like Hawaii unless you are down at the beach.

I'd second the suggestion for the Big Island--try the Four Seasons there! It's spectacular!

Lanai is fine for a 3 days or so if:

1. You love the beach.

2. You love golf.

3. You love hiking.

4. You don't need nightlife.

5. You don't need bright lights and noise.
