Is Key West during Spring Break a good romantic destination?
 

I'm planning a 25th anniversary trip, and my wife is concerned that Key West during Spring Break will be over-run with families with kids, and therefore just remind her that we're not with our own kids. My guess is that it'll be mostly empty-nesters and college kids, and so less of a worry.

Do you think Key West will be a romantic destination at that time of the year?

Any recommendations on hotels that will lean more toward that ideal?

Many of the small inns and hotels in Key West do not allow children and are truly the romance of Key West.

The Gardens Hotel and the Marquesa House are two of the finest in Old Town and are walking distance to the activity of Mallory Square and the Sunset Celebration. Just stay away from the chain hotels and make sure your Inn is in Old Town and you should be fine.

Also check out www.historickeywestinns.com I have stayed at all of these properties and they range in price and quality, but all are good...

Because of the price of rooms and the Age restrictions, very few spring breakers are drawn to KW, most are headed to the areas of Florida set up for their partying...

The kids that are in Key west are mostly with their parents at the Chain hotels and outside of old town...

You really don't see a lot of kids in Key West. It is expensive for the college age ones and most people want to do adult things while there so you will be great.

We stayed at the Marquesa and thought it was wonderful and romantic. There's a nice little pool in the back. If you want to be closer to things, we loved the Ocean Key Resort - their ocean view rooms are fantastic, and they upgraded us for free. Their restaurants are excellent as well. They even did a nice breakfast for us on our balcony. It's right next to Mallory Square, but was quiet for us - loved eating on their Sunset Pier and at Hot Tin Roof. Danger's Wind and Wine Cruise is very romantic. And if you're up for something kind of pricey, the plane trip to the Dry Tortugas is wonderful.
